And that's a wrap! Thank you to everyone who participated - remember, even if you don't win this time, we pride ourselves on trying to do regular competitions. So stick around, you never know what might be given away next! As you guys quickly figured out, there was more than one possible answer to this question. Now, I didn't actually know this at the time, but let's pretend I did and this was all a clever ploy to help counter-act the fact that you guys can read each other's comments. Just to put things at rest, yes, the EARLY working title was indeed "Dawn of Man", whilst a later working title was "Tribe". Out of interest, I was thinking of "Dawn of Man" at the beginning. Because I love you guys so much, provided you said either Tribe(s) or Dawn of Man, you get entered into the prize draw. Again, the lovely people at Microsoft are our partners for this one, this time in celebration of Age of Empires: Online! In order to generate some buzz, and to coincide with an interview transcript that... well, it's actually lost in the nether that is the 'To Do' list, but it's there! And it will be up soon, so pretend it all happened at the same time and be suitably excited. We did publish some news from the interview mind, which you can see here. So, what do we have for you? We have TEN copies of the Age of Empires III Complete Collection, which is basically Age of Empires III plus the two expansions they released for it - The Warchiefs, and The Asian Dynasties. The Competition So, standard affair here. I'll ask a question, you answer it in the comments. Users who answer correctly will be entered into a hat, and names will be picked at random. I know some of you are a bit weary of comps that allow randoms to come and join, but to be honest we only save the more focused ones for very special prizes. Anyway, without further ado: What was the working title for the first Age of Empires game? Remember, questions are always answerable using publically available information. There wouldn't be any point it otherwise. You have until Thursday February 17th, so get cracking!

Although I did search for the correct answer, I mean, you do actually have it right there, already answered.. Indeed some new user can hop in and copy paste it and get himself in on the competition.. which is a bit unrighteous to the first replier. :S (Just read posts 4-5 to see what i mean ahaha)

Anyway, the answer to that is indeed "Dawn of Man"!
The working title name of Age of Empires while it was being produced back in 96, but upon release, Age of Empires ensued.

You know, I make this mistake every time. I use an Q&A system, and then forget that as soon as people post down answers, everyone else gets to see them. Whooops!

Now that there is apparently two possible answers though, this just got more interesting :D

I'm not going to tell you which answer is correct. You're just going to have to take a guess and hope for the best :P No changing answers either.

Like Nicolas i took the pain of looking up myself (or actually Google did the Job).I found it! Of all games i ever played, AoE was the game i spent most hours with. For some reasons, however, i never got beyond Age of Kings (had other things on my mind i suppose), and i'd love to explore Mythology, Asians and Titans.

I'm surprised that no one here has got it completely right yet. The development title in 1995 when the game started development was "Dawn of Man", but the development title the game used in 1996 was "Tribe" not "Tribes".

Now I know why the box looked so big, just noticed that its on CD, LOL, 5 CDs.
Last time I saw so many CDs for a game was the CD version of Unreal Tornament 2003, 6 CDs I think.

Mine also came this morning but not so safe and sound. Someone or something hit it (hole in the package) and the box is broken from the inside quite badly. Luckily the discs are safe and it's almost invisible from the outside which is weird :P
