After all the fuss about skyrim being crap, bad, appauling, disappointing. etc I have taken a liking to Skyrim and I will be making mods for it.
The creation kit compared to Oblivion's construction is ridiculously complex and so it will take to sort of adjust to it so I will start small for now and work up to bigger things later on.
I have also increased my Skyrim rating up to 8.
And yes, there will be a 5000 download special. :)
Time for another Q&A I think.
Q1: Will there really be no Skyrim mods?
A1: At this point in time it doesn't look good. I admit I made my "No Skyrim Mods Period" post in a fit of frustration. Rumour has it though that Skyrim DLCs are coming soon. If they don't turn out to be half-arsed like the space core mod was I may develop a bit of a liking to Skyrim, but as it is now it seems unlikely.
Q2: What about the big mod you promised?
A2: If I do decide to make mods for Skyrim, then this big mod will be on the list however I may need permission from certain people to create before I go ahead to make it.
Q3: Any more Oblivion mods?
A3: Sadly no. This is because Oblivion is a thing of the past now Skyrim is out. Sad considering how Oblivion was a masterpiece compared to Skyrim, and a masterpiece full stop.
Today I sadly announce that I will NOT be making any Skyrim mods. This is because I was extremely disappointed with the game.
Before Skyrim was released I rated it 10 because I expected an Oblivion 2. Sadly, that rating swooped down to 6 because of Skyrim's flaws. That rating has gone down again to 3, however this wasn't because of Bethesda... otherwise I would've rated it a 2.
Valve had to mess with an already disappointing game by adding the Space Core (search it up on YouTube if you don't know what I'm talking about) into game as a DLC. Skyrim's setting is a fantasy-medieval kind of atmosphere, Portal 2 is a futuristic atmosphere. Valve has added the Space Core and a Dovahcore Helmet to the game (helmet shaped like the space core but with horns, and it looks stupid) and has completely killed the original medieval atmosphere of the game.
I understand many of you are surprised about my low rating of Skyrim, well I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Oblivion was masterful, Skyrim is heavily flawed. What the hell happened Bethesda?
Roll on Elder Scrolls 6.
Well it has been ages since I've been on, mostly due to events, christmas, birthday.etc. And also Skyrim.
This is gonna be long so if you've got a short attention span you might as well click the back button on your browser now.
So how did I find Skyrim? Prepare to be shocked but I was actually quite disappointed.
Skyrim for me was the game of the year, I saw that it would the most breathtaking fantasy yet. However I also saw things before it's release that I didn't agree with, but I just looked at the bright sides of the negatives and cheered myself up a bit. Too bad when it got round the playing the game those negatives swung at me in force.
Lets cover the positives first.
The graphics are simply breathtaking, I have yet to see a game to rival Skyrim's graphic capabilities. The rivers, the oceans, the waterfalls, the landscapes, simply marvellous. Combat was pretty decent too with the exception of one thing that I'll cover later and it's more realistic.
Gotta love the perk tree as well, and I like the fact you can craft your own equipment too.
Now the negatives of the game. Sadly, there's a fair amount of em.
First of all, the disposition, I dislike the way Bethesda have made it so you can't do that little mini-game in Oblivion to make people like you, or hate you as the case may be.
Another flaw is some of the conversations. In Oblivion, you can actually have proper convos with at least most of the NPCs in the game. Not in Skyrim. With a lot of the people, it's just say one line, and move on.
Other things such as what I call the "Live Action Shots" when killing an enemy also flaw the game. By Live Action Shot I mean the cam going into 3rd person and showing the player pull off a final move. This doesn't improve the game or make it look cool, it just interrupts gameplay and wastes time.
To conclude, this is the result of Oblivion (the best RPG ever made so far), with the worst things from Fallout 3, and some of the flaws of Fable 2 thrown into a mixing bowl and baked into a bitter cake called Skyrim. Although Oblivion can't keep up with Skyrim's immense graphics, Oblivion completely walks all over it in terms of gameplay.
Sorry readers, but it's a 6/10 from me. (This review might change as I play the game more, but for now I am disappointed)
On a brighter note I will start making mods again, but only once the Skyrim Creation Kit is out, I will no longer be making mods for Oblivion as Oblivion is old news now and besides, I might get drawn into Skyrim, or I might not, who knows?
There will also be another Q&A post coming up shortly, but more on that later. I'm sorry my return post was pretty dark and negative, but I had to get my this off my chest. I promise my next blog post will be more positive.
UPDATE: The above review may change to become positive but after seeing Bethesda's recent addition (See "No Skyrim Mods... Period") I can only see the rating going down.
I will not be uploading any more Oblivion for a while, there are several reasons behind this.
The first reason is because I had to format my hard-drive (viruses) and I am yet to install all the software needed, the Construction Set, some modders resources, and of course the game itself.
Another reason is because I have so much going on right now that it's unbelievable.
On a side note Blade Of Destiny v1.1 is officially the final EVER version of the Blade Of Destiny mod. There will no updates at all on that mod anymore.
Tonight the final major Blade Of Destiny update is being tested, tweaked, and manipulated ready for uploading.
So far it includes:
* Two new books.
* A key.
* An easter egg (mentioned in the readme file)
And there's more to come. It will hopefully be uploaded tomorrow, otherwise it will be uploaded on Monday.
NOTE: This is the last MAJOR update of Blade Of Destiny. They may still be minor updates to come yet.
Blade Of Destiny v1.1 will be released some time within the following week. Here's what it will contain.
* More items.
* POSSIBLY more dialogue. I don't know if I'll add this though.
* And a hidden easter egg.
This will be the final ever version of Blade Of Destiny, after this, it'll be time to press on to new pastures.
In my previous blog entry I mentioned I was working on a mod called Knights Of Gallancia. This mod was to be a large multi quest mod. Sadly, I have decided to postpone it for Skyrim.
The mod is far too big to be completed before Skyrim comes out and if I was to rush it you can expect the mod to be full of bug and glitches that I just won't have time to fix.
The mod will be made for Skyrim instead, of course I will have to wait for Skyrim to be released first.
I have uploaded Blade Of Destiny v1.0 however due to time restrictions it is a pretty pointless update. All it contains is a way to get the sword back after you've sold it. Expect further updates later on.
And now onto the next project, Knights of Gallancia. This is a huge mutli-quest mod featuring a new faction called "Knights of Gallancia." They are a group of knights who work for the good of the empire. But I'm going to shut up now before I reveal too much information before it's release.
Sadly, the first full version of Blade of Destiny will be delayed. It was due out the weekend that has just gone but due to some complications (some related to the mod, some unrelated) I'm going to be pushing the release date to this upcoming Thursday.No comments | Permalink | Give thumb up
