"Like it" feature for comments on SI?
Posted: 01/12/2012 13:58 by KresComments: 17
Hey guys,

Think we should add LIKE/DISLIKE to our comments on SI? I think it could be fun. Thoughts?

Let's bring revolution to the internet. I don't think that any site has anything similar yet. x)

Thanks!

You mean like the THUMBS UP/DOWN features on Gamespot and Gametrailers?
Sorry, I don't "like" these features as it gives you, more often than not an anonymous negativity to your post. "Why did I get a thumbs down for liking this game?" for example.
This is probably why Facebook only allows the "LIKE" and no negative response. That requires a written response.
If someone disagrees with me I'd prefer they say so. It isn't just some faceles criticism that could be for any reason.
That's my take on it anyway:)

Damn, I didn't even hit "submit" twice. Sorry, please delete the re-post, Kres.
That reminds me. While talking about new functions, might we have an Edit/Delete function for the Community Page as we do with Comments on News and Reviews?

Yeah so just thumbs up? That sounds good. We can go with that. I understand what you mean.

Moderators? Well, we will be redoing the community pages and adding a forum to replace the blogs. To not complicate things beyond reason, which we've done. So lets wait for the forums and then it'll be sorted.

I agree with like only. Those down votes just get annoying. Take the world of tanks forums for instance, where I have posted on occasion. On the EU forums I stand at positive 12 or something, on the US forums it's negative 20 or some such. Yet I am an equally magnificent bastard on both.

Forums do need mods, or they'll go to hell fast enough. People with the power to delete/edit posts and at least give temporary bans....that won't go beserk themselves. (I've seen one forum die out myself because of a corrupt admin who just bannned willy nilly)

Thankfully we mostly have civilized mature posts on the site. I'd hope that forums will be the same but prolly a bit more messy. Though forums were never really our thing. Guess the mix up with blogs made some damage there. Looking forward to the new forums. But they will take some time to get developed. Not too soon...

We're not rushing you.

*puts pitchfork behind back*

You take your time now.

No, no presure at all. Would make orgainsing Clans/PArties?Fleets?Groups easier for "BF3", "STO", "Diablo III" (when released), "SW: TOR" a lot easier.
But....no pressure:)

No need for a like button or anything such. Its good to see people actually writing out that they appreciate somebody's views rather than seeing it come up as a +1 or 'so and so likes this'. Encourages further discussion too I suppose. :)

Yeah surely if there's a need for it Herod.

Ok we got a negative vote by Hunter. You got a point Hunter I guess. Mhm x) but it works just fine on other sites. We're not YouTube ok, but it does work there and doesn't stop people from posting something.

I honestly don't care enough either way to let that sway you, just don't do negative voting :)

Well we do not really need to add this feature. Just trying to figure out if we should do it. No conclusion yet. But plenty of other dev work scheduled so it's not a hurry.

Btw, we're going to add news polls such as: http://www.freyre.com:12001/attachments/19/Polls.jpg
So a single poll added by admin for a news piece. Where appropriate. IGNORE THE BOTTOM POLLS ON THE SAMPLE. Just the top poll is staying.

Doesn't seem to work, that link. I'm just getting an error.

while we're on features here, why am I unable to post images in my Camp using IE8, FF or Chrome. "Error 404" every time I post an article, but it gets posted. Images do not, however.

Herod Camps are going to get removed from SI as I've mentioned before. So don't really pull extra effort there. Sorry about that. We just don't have enough of dev time to fix things that are going to be removed. There will be more talk about community changes ahead. We've started work on new community pages. But design work only for now. Which means not much is going on at the moment. Lots of work with lots of stuff in between. So just don't know when we'll see that.

I do remember you saying they would be going, I just hadn't heard anything in a while so thought they might be staying for a bit (must have been all the cuffuffle with HDD going down). No big deal, as they really are a one-man-effort.
