Games And Music

So I was in 30 secs to mars concert, when all of a suddenly a question popped up on my head, Does everyone listen to music while they play video games? If yes, what type and on what game?

This might be a little odd, but there are indeed players that find music soothing and sometimes helps them concentrate on little details, but I also know that for others it's the complete opposite, as they miss every detail and fail most of the actions.

I only have myself with two examples, whereas I constantly listen to music while I play World of Warcraft, I mean, It has an amazing OST, but lets face it, it gets old after awhile, so It's normal being in a raid and listening to whatever pops up on my list.
The other one is Battlefield 2142, but unlike WoW where I can listen to everything that comes, here I prefer the calm type, sometimes Epic OSTS or just the casual Classic sonata. I found myself sometimes listening to Fado ahaah (which is a Portuguese music genre in case you are not familiar with it).

So my curiosity makes me ask you a question, do you listen to music while you play games? Yes? No? Sometimes?

Personally, I listen to Motion Picture Soundtracks that may be of the same genre as the game. I love dogfighting in "Rise of Flight" with the score from "Battle of Britain" thumping out of my stereo.

Now I'll have to get the score for "Unstoppable" for "Railworks 2", hehe...

Lol I do listen to music. Though its only usually when I'm playing multiplayer. If so, the music is usually Tool or Opeth.

Then again romping through the fields in "BF:BC 2" in a tank with the chords of "Take It Easy" strumming out...can't beat it.
That's by the Eagles, for you plebs:)

Hm...most games don't go well with the music I listen to though.

On the same vein, the best ingame music I've ever heard is from Prince Of Persia Warrior Within!

Oh, I remember listening to Rammstein while playing Warhawk, used to be so Epic.. as for OST's, I believe that their the easier to listening according to stress situations and under tense missions, especially on COd and BF titles ahaha

I usually soft down the original score of the game I'm playing. Sometimes I just kill of the music all together. But it really depends a lot of the game I play. When I played Quake and Q2 MP - I listened alot to NIN or any other speedy music.

Mostly I like to immerse myself into the game and play, so I mostly skip out of music unless the score goes well with the game like background music for NWN, Batman etc, others like Oblivion when you sneak around - I don't want music destroying the game.

But if I really want music - I play Audiosurf or Beat Hazard.
