Creative Assembly Lead Designer Jamie Ferguson has commented that the company may have over-reached themselves when it came to designing Empire: Total War.
In an interview with Strategy Informer regarding Shogun 2, we asked him whether depth beats scope...
"It's a difficult balancing act - I don't think you can say there's one formula for success," he said.
"With Empire we certainly learnt a lesson there - to do a revolutionary game with a brand new engine, new graphics set as well as doing the entire world at the same time was probably a step too far."
Empire: Total War, whilst generally well received, suffered from a buggy release, and then was all but abandoned when the company moved on to the more improved Napoleon: Total War.
"I wouldn't say that scope is not something you should include, but I would say it certainly made us more aware of what we can achieve, and that sometimes less is more," Ferguson went on to say.
You can see what we thought of Empire . Don't forget to check out of this , as well as our with Total War: Shogun 2, which releases on March 15th next year.
