D&D: Daggerdale announced

The first Dungeons & Dragons digital download game has been announced by Atari and Bedlam Games. Dungeons & Dragons: Daggerdale will be released for PC, Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation in Spring 2011.

The game seems to be a Diablo-style hack-and-slash action RPG, which would be welcome news for gamers who loved the Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance games, which were also Diablo-style games based on D&D.

According to the press release, "Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale centers on the desperate struggle to defeat the evil Rezlus and his Zhentarim in their attempt to invade and conquer the Dalelands. Dungeons & Dragons Daggerdale is an engaging multi-player experience that introduces a riveting narrative and treacherous new characters. Players are charged with the task of restoring order to Nentir Vale by unlocking the secrets of the Mines of Tethyamar, defeating the evil within the treacherous Tower of the Void, leading to the final confrontation with Rezlus himself."

Looking good. Haven't played a "Diablo"-style game since 'Torchlight", though this title will have "Diablo III" to go up against. With "DoW II: Retribution" and "DoW III" on the way not long after, 2011 just might be a good year for the ARPG.

@herodotus: Daggerdale is an XBLA/PSN type of game, so it isn't going to compete against retail games. It's more likely going to compete against Torchlight 2.

Ardent D&D fans would disagee, but it'll still make for a good year. Haven't visited Daggerdale in years.
