Battlefield 3 confirmed for 2011

Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello has confirmed that Battlefield 3 will be hitting stores in 2011. Back in June 2009, Battlefield 3 was reported to be in development.

Riccitiello said in an interview: "…and then our big focus is Battlefield 3 in the second half of the year. I’d be shocked if we didn’t take a notch out of (Activision)."

It looks like Battlefield 3 will be EA's attempt to overshadow Call of Duty.

Good to get the confirmation. But, why is the article showing a screen from BF2?

I do so hope that this release isn't plagued with the same game-breaking bugs that "BF 2" suffered on launch (and to a lesser yet notable degree "BF:BC 2").

Awesome! I can't wait! :D BC2 and BC2-Vietnam are both awesome so I have high hopes for BF3! :)

"But, why is the article showing a screen from BF2?"

Because no one knows what BF3 looks like.

I hope that BF3 brings more weapons, nation distinct weapons, a more selective list of vehicles and last but not list a campaign mode.

I just want up to date graphics, and as I said, same scope of what previous Battlefield's had. So I really want to see commanders with perhaps even more control and tools for the battlefield. It sucks that they've removed & replaced that with a mere UAV in BFBC2. So I hope that's just because it's a different series, and that it's not a new direction they're taking. If they take commanders down, I'm not buying the game.

"BF:BC 2" has already been affected by the new direction DICE have taken with the MP aspect of "MoH" (the "Vietnam" expansion is basically built on that game's map/gameplay structure).
If this trend continues into "BF 3", there will be howls of protest from across the globe (even tho I personally enjoy "MoH").

I don't see anything too special with Vietnam. Bought it the other day, and played it only once. Perhaps it doesn't cost too much, but perhaps it could've had some SP.

^I unfortunately disagree there, Swifty. With the way Dice are going, and getting a big nod from EA, they are attempting to rival "CoD" in the twitch-shooter category. As I said, I enjoy "MoH" (much more than the minuscule maps of "CoD:BO") for it's atmosphere and environment. Sure the maps are just as small, as they are in "Vietnam" but the backgrounds and the activity going on in both make the difference (mountain ranges, helicopter flights buzzing overhead, rockets firing from imaginary bases).
"Vietnam" was uber-fun on the hour of it's re;lease - never been revived so many times in my life (virtual, of course). Med-kits and ammo boxes littering the field, everyone learning how to play the new maps...great laugh. The novelty's worn off, however.
I realise the "BF" series has always been about big 64-player maps (except the XBox version, of course), but is this direction going to change to attract the larger and more profitable console audience?
I'll bet it does!

Hmmm I don't know about this one if they are trying to make it like COD games. I really liked the first second one as it was. I just hope its good.

BF isn't CoD. How can they make it like CoD... Why would they do that...
