If you're an achievement junkie on Xbox Live and happen to own Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth 2 then you're soon to lose something precious!

I'm talking about gamescore points, the unspendable currency of the cool crowd, as EA will be shutting down more servers soon blocking some achievements.

January 11th is the day EA will be repurposing those LOTR: BfME2 servers as well as a number of other servers for many more titles. That means you won't be able to earn those multiplayer achievements on Xbox Live anymore, unless you've got them already.

The endangered list for your convenience:
• Sergeant
• King of the Hill!
• Capture and Hold
• Middle-earth Financier
• My Heroes!!!!
• General
• King of Kings
• Capture them all!!!
• Entrepreneur of Middle-earth
• My Heroes are better than yours
• The Hobbit and the Troll
• In need of a lesson
• Try a tutorial

Other EA games getting the eternal cold shoulder for online play are:
• FIFA 07
• FIFA 08
• FIFA 09
• FIFA Street 3
• Fight Night Round 3
• Madden NFL 09
• NBA LIVE 08
• NBA LIVE 09
• NCAA March Madness 08
• NCAA Basketball 09
• NCAA Football 07
• NCAA Football 08
• NCAA Football 09
• NFL Head Coach 09
• NHL 08
• NHL 09
• Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 09
• UEFA EURO 2008

All of these game servers will be switched off by February 8th at the latest. Should online achievements be included when they can be made permanently unachievable?

In an ideal world, we'd all like to see these sever rewards persist ad infinitum. However, it's good business practice, and games are after all simply commodoties to the CEO's. Shame "NBA Libe 09" is being dropped though; quite enjoy that one.
