Stardock Games' Brad Wardell reveals their projections have Elemental: War of Magic, which profits right now, losing money "by the end of" Q2 2011.
This is because they intend to "spend what is necessary" on Elemental to deliver the "expectations of our customers." It's "unfortunate" but "crucial".
"Elemental made its money back on day one and has continued to be profitable to this point," Wardell said in an email. Pre-orders helped the studio break-even before its launch in August last year. Unfortunately the game was riddled with bugs and other issues.
"However, based on our projections we anticipate by the end of second quarter 2011 that Elemental will end up losing money overall as our objective is to spend what is necessary to ensure that the game meets the expectations of our customers," he added.
Stardock are desperate to prove their name means quality and have already hired a top Civilization IV modder to lead Elemental's development, and hired former Civilization V lead designer Jon Shafer to contribute on the project too.
"While this short-term loss is unfortunate, it is crucial in the long term that PC gamers know that the Stardock name means quality and support," said Wardell, a friend to PCs everywhere. Stardock made its fame from the Galactic Civilizations franchise.
