Crytek: Crysis 2 is "benchmark 3D"

Avatar film director James Cameron has seen Crytek's Crysis 2 running in glorious 3D and he "loved what he saw" reveals studio president Cevat Yerli.

What was Cameron doing there? "...that's another story," teases Yerli. Crysis 2 isn't their first 3D project, which is why it's a "benchmark 3D implementation".

"A lot of this knowledge is now in the Crysis 2 3D experience,” said Cevat Yerli in an interview with Edge magazine, speaking of Crytek's past tinkering with 3D. “That’s why we have, in my opinion, a benchmark 3D implementation.”

In fact he believes it's our industries equivalent of James Cameron's Avatar. “I’ll even claim it’s the same as Avatar’s status in 3D,” added the Crytek boss.

"James Cameron has seen Crysis 2, and he loved what he saw because his eyes are trained for 3D more than anyone else’s, and that makes me confident that we have a super-high-end 3D experience on all formats.”

More curious now is why was Hollywood superstar director James Cameron watching Crysis 2 in the first place? Yerli would only say "that’s another story." Crysis 2 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC March 22nd in the US, and the 25th in the UK.

Great more aliens in the cinema, just what we need it.

@ Chosen_One. I don't think you'll have to upgrade to play Crysis 2. Crytek has said that Crysis 2 will have less requirements to play than the original Crysis. Amazing, wouldn't you think so?

DX11 I ment ) I have gtx 285 and Crysis 1 is ok on best perfomance. But for dx 11 I'll need some 580 or higher (If its exist)

P.S. and I think it's great about less requirements to play ) I always questioning myself about why this cry engine are so hungry for hardware.

Why would you need 580 or higher? Why does everyone think it's all about firepower? ccc

Wasn't there something on crytek selling there game engine to developers who want to use it. Why does everyone think you need a GREAT computer to run crysis. I was able to run crysis at 30FPS on average with a amd athlon 64x2 4000+ and a 8400GS OC a stock motherboard/psu from dell, and 4gb of ddr2 ram. Settings where on low/medium with resolution at 800x600. Which for that bad of a computer is great if you ask me.Never dropped below 22FPS and max was 40FPS. The computer can't even run black ops but it could run crysis. LOL

DX 10? I doubt bout it. 800x600 is horrible man, I have widescreen monitor. Crysis is synonym to word Firepower. Its always been some high mountain for fps (graphical side of it).
By Wowerine (SI Elite) on Jan 17, 2011
Wowerine
You also don't need more than 45 - 60 fps to enjoy the game. And why do you think you need only a good graphic card? You also need a good CPU...

...and a lot of RAM :p
By Chosen_One (SI Elite) on Jan 17, 2011

i7 I think would be enough and indeed I have only 4 gb need to make it 8 ) Every Crytek game push the req. for a game but it also provide new generation of graphics...tbh cryengine 3 is fixed cryengine 2 (imho) cuz its not a jump like from cry 1 to cry 2, so I just need new card for directX 11 and maybe RAM (bout second I'm not sure).

Great stuff, I'm sure Crysis 2 will be amazing!

Being multi platform, I'm sure the PC requirements will be toned-down even from "Crysis Warhead" (which I personally loathed - installed and deleted in the same hour just the other day). I hope Cameron has Jason Statham in mind for a reprise of his role as Psycho in the original. The city as a new environ might drwaw me back...that accursed island - bleh!

Yeah, Jason Statham would be perfect for the role of Psycho. We just have to figure who'll play Nomad but I guess we can pick anybody :)

Seal could play Prophet :D

Michael Jai White (aka. Spawn) for Nomad. Built like the provebial brick *house and martial arts to the hilt. Can act as well:)
By Eversor (SI Elite) on Jan 18, 2011

@ Chosen_One. I see. As far as I know nobody right now makes anything more powerfull than a GTX 580.

@ Herodotus. Michael White is a black man. The character of Nomad is not a black man. I ain't being racist, I just don't think that a black person should play Nomad.

It's amazing that Uwe Boll hasn't made the Crysis film :p Thank God he didn't.

@Evers
How do we know Nomad is white? I can't recall any cut-scene showing my reflection...then again my memory ain't what it used to be:)
@djole381
Amen, brother. Did you see his latest, "Rampage"? Pure trash.

Crysis by Boll oh lol ^^ I imagine that shit ^^ Maximum carton suit ^^
By Eversor (SI Elite) on Jan 18, 2011
Eversor
@ Herodotus. One reason we know that Nomad isn't black is that he don't talk like a black person. Most blacks have an accent. Another reason he's not is that there is already a black person in Raptor team. Prophet.

@Eversor
You forgot Jester.
By herodotus (SI Herodotus) on Jan 18, 2011

@Evers
I forgot...you can only ever have one black character (for shame).
As far as sounding like he's black...who cares? He's noty a comic book hero steeped in lore. Plenty of room for poetic licence.
By Eversor (SI Elite) on Jan 18, 2011
Eversor
Opps. I haven't played Crysis in almost a year, so my memory is splotchy about the characters. Theres Prophet, Nomad, Psycho, Aztec, Jester.

@ Herodotus. Of course since you don't really know the race of Nomad you could make any way you wanted in a movie.
By herodotus (SI Herodotus) on Jan 18, 2011
herodotus
Well he wouldn't really have to act. Only Psycho, voiced by Jason Statham in "Crysis" was any good. I just saw "The Fighter" with Mark Wahlberg and his dreadfully banal performance would easilly fill the bill...only he's a tad short. CAn't think of anyone else that could do it...except Statham and Jai White, and Statham's role is already taken.
Unless you drag out saggy Arnie, or Arthritic-riddled Stallone:)
By Eversor (SI Elite) on Jan 19, 2011
Eversor
What's that suposed to mean? Of course he would have to act. Except it would be in front of a blue screen.
By herodotus (SI Herodotus) on Jan 19, 2011
herodotus
Yeah, but he's all gruff talking and power suit. Then again, I guess if Christian Bale passes on "Dark Knight Rising" he might be up for it.
By Eversor (SI Elite) on Jan 20, 2011

Jason Statham is the only guy I know of that I think would be good as Psycho. I don't know who would be good to play Nomad. Samuel L. Jackson would be a an Excellent actor for Prophet.

Samuel L. Jackson? I dunno, I just can't imagine him wearing a Nanosuit.
