The closed beta period for World of Tanks is almost over and Wargaming.net thanks players for their "crucial contribution" to the free-to-play game.

In seven days time the open beta will begin with "unique game modes" and all-new maps and vehicles. It's a team-based armoured warfare action-MMO.

"We’ve been very pleased to get such a response from our players that means the direction we are moving in goes in line with the views of our community," said Victor Kislyi, CEO of Wargaming.net. “I’d like to thank our fans for their crucial contribution to the development of the game and remind that there’ll be a lot of new stuff added in the open beta."

Around 260,000 players have taken part in the closed beta for the MMO, tallying up 2 million battles with over 40 million vehicles being turned to scrap in the name of war. To sign-up for the World of Tanks beta visit their official website for access.

It sports 150 vehicles with "thousands of upgrades" and 15 vs. 15 PvP tank battles.

If the matchmaking has been levelled so that teas of close to equal stregths be formed then I may head back into this strangely adddicting game. Still, without the ability to re-spawn can make for some very long 'spetator' sessions.
