The Old Republic 'Flashpoints' explained

BioWare has explained the purpose of 'Flashpoints' in their sci-fi MMO Star Wars: The Old Republic, as seen in the Taral V video posted a few days ago here on Strategy Informer.

Flashpoints are the MMO's version of heroic dungeons in World of Warcraft, instances that are self-contained stories that contain stronger enemies that require multiplayer teams.

The official site has posted a page showing off the Taral V video, as well as revealing some of the Flashpoints, including:

The Esseles (Early Game, Republic Only): When a Republic transport secretly carrying a high-profile passenger is attacked by Imperials, your team must defend the ship and eventually must decide the passenger’s fate.

The Black Talon (Early Game, Empire Only): The captain of an Imperial transport refuses official orders to intercept a Republic transport, and your team must seize control of the transport and carry out the mission. Will you kill or spare the captain? (Some may have seen this in early The Old Republic videos showing off how dialog works.)

Taral V (Mid Game, Republic Only): Imperials are holding a Jedi prisoner who is critical to the Republic war effort. Your team must travel deep into enemy territory to recover the key to liberating this Republic hero.

Boarding Party (Mid Game, Empire Only): When a high-level Republic prisoner escapes from an Imperial prison, your team must track down the target and prevent an audacious attack to destroy the Sith Empire.

Directive 7 (End Game, Both Factions): Mutinous droids on a remote moon develop a technology that could lead to massive destruction for both the Republic and the Empire. Your team must shut down the rebellion before it’s too late.

Let us know if this is getting you excited for Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Right so this is for the MMO side of MMORPG then.
I'll probably not be using that.

That makes no sense whatsoever.

This 2009 video shows the Talon Flashpoint in action. Note the multiplayer co-op dialog in the cutscene.

Your point?

What doesn't make sense here?

I think he was referring to you're implication that this doesn't contain any RPG elements, which is incorrect.. it contains as many RPG elements as the rest of the game. I think this is simply a mis-communication as I assume you were just trying to say that this is multiplayer-only content, as a opposed to the content you can do on your own.

I've experienced similar events in "STO", with more to come in the form of Episodes. They certainly require strong teamwork and really in an MMO if you aren't playing with others, you're only experiencing a fraction of the gaming content. These do look good Jonah, and I'm feeling the Force growing stronger in this one. When the time comes, I will probably succumb...probably.

As a WoW player I see no problem with it... Just they need to put a system in for finding people for it. Many players get left behind when they can't find anyone doing it anymore.

@JAke
Ah ok, that makes sense now. I was indeed referring to the fact that it's multiplayer only content.
