Crytek: Crysis 2 PC pwns console versions
Posted: 09.02.2011 03:47 by Comments: 13
Crytek is reassuring PC gamers that their version will be "superior from every angle" to the console versions.

Crytek president and creative director Cevat Yerli told Edge Magazine when asked about the PC version and whether it would be "dumbed down" due to having console versions being released alongside it like other games have in the past: "Yeah. Crysis 2 doesn't suffer from that, in my opinion it's superior from every angle..."

He also added that gamers won't need to worry about having to have an uber-rig to get the most out of Crysis 2: "...This isn't necessarily a game you can't play today, or where you need another two years to max it out. That's not the approach this time. Now, it's more like we want to give you the best PC experience with current high-end equipment. So if you bought the last high-end graphics card, you're going to get a blast out of it. Likewise, the minimum-spec experience will be of a far higher quality than Crysis was."

Glad to hear it, because I tried the Xbox demo, and wasn't all that impressed with it. I was always going to get it on PC anyway.. but figured it was worth trying the demo out, and what I found was that (aside form the exessive lag I experienced), it just didn't seem suited to consoles.

That was the multiplayer demo. Everyone who's played the single player Crysis 2 on 360 (which is just game journalists) said that it was smooth as silk.

It's trickier to netcode, you know.

I do know (just studied games programming for a year lol), and frankly.. I'm not sure if the lag was in fact just my connection or the game itself.. so not too fussed over that. I just found the environments and general gameplay didn't suit the console experience of (usually) not being up close to the screen like you are on a PC.. but I guess that comes down to preference (though I believe a majority of people would agree).

Anyway, I'm looking forward to Crysis 2 on PC! At least for the single-player, as I think BC2 (and possibly Homefront) will keep me occupied for my multi-player needs until Battlefield 3 is released! :)

Oh, I can't wait for this. BUT, I probably won't get to play it.

Geez! What a surprise PC pwns consoles version, well in terms of hardware a console will never surpass the PC.

@VHugeSama: You don't get it. Crytek is saying that the PC version isn't "dumbed down" like some games because they have console versions. (Deus Ex: Invisible War, we're looking at you.)

See what happens when you base your re-reporting on a re-report? The original interview was from Edge magazine and Yerli was not comparing the PC version to the console version with these quotes, he was comparing Crysis 2 PC to Crysis.

You end up spreading misinformation and look quite foolish yourself. Do you due diligence next time. Or just link to the real story and don't attempt to pass off someone else's story as your own, especially if you can't even get their story right.

I'm waiting for the release, because I liked the first until aliens appeared out of nowhere.

Crytek: Crysis 2 PC pwns console versions

Thats low, even for SI.

At least Crytek still understand that PC gamers demand and expect the best a Developer has to offer for release on PC, and not some grubby port. "CoD: BO" for PC didn't even make the Top 20 sales for 2010 in the Australian retailers report (and it was priced exactly the same on digital download sites such as Steam - $89.99).

Well, not greasing me up for play - they are focusing on the ,IMO, booring parts of Crysis - but if a demo or something is out - I would be happy to be proven wrong...
