During Activision's cuts in the past week, DJ Hero was one of the IPs that were axed. However, FreeStyle Games has not shared its fact, as Activision is still negotiating with the DJ Hero developer about their future.
In a statement by founders David Osbourn, Chris Lee and Jamie Jackson., they stated: “We’re actively working with Activision on various options going forward for the studio. No decisions have been taken at this stage. We appreciate everyone’s support through this process and will be as open and transparent as possible as soon as we know more.”
The statement confirmed the axing of the next DJ Hero game for 2011, however.
“Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing’s DJ Hero business unit and discontinue development on its DJ Hero game for 2011. These decisions are based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world’s best interactive entertainment experiences.”
It'll be interesting to see what FreeStyle Games' next title will be. Maybe yet another Call of Duty spinoff?
