Mirror's Edge 2 officially canceled

Electronic Arts has announced that it has officially pulled the plug on Mirror's Edge 2, stopping development of the project after early prototypes were deemed to be disappointing.

Electronic Arts' Patrick Soderlund said that the Mirror's Edge series was "close to his heart", but poor sales did not help matters.

According to Press 2 Play, DICE showed Electronic Arts a prototype, and EA was not pleased: "EA was shown a prototype, but declined with askance. The project has been stopped - involved parties at DICE are working on something else now."

Back in 2008, Electronic Arts declared that they had "big plans" for Mirror's Edge, and were planning for sequels beyond the planned trilogy - before the game had even been released.

3 1/2 years later and they still only have prototypes? The game was dead a long time ago. They just finally buried it - and DICE is basically saying, "Battlefield is our game."

They canceled a work of art just for another Battlefield game? What, are they thinking that gamers are bunch of trigger happy retards who like to shoot anything that moves instead of enjoying a nice and refreshing masterpiece?

This makes me sad, I liked Mirror's Edge 'cause it was something different...

Exactly! But in this time and age being different is bad.

A shame indeed, though I have to admit that my excitement for Battlefield 3 is making it hard to really mourn this whole-heartedly.

@djole: "They canceled a work of art just for another Battlefield game?"

Who cares if it's a "work of art" if it's not a good game? They couldn't even make a fun prototype in 3.5 years.
