Major Nelson has confirmed that Microsoft will be inviting members of the press to an event with "some cool news" that even he's not "quite fully briefed on".

He teases we'll all be "really happy" when the news breaks. The event is this week in San Francisco. 2011's big Microsoft titles are expected to show.

"Next week I’m going to be down in San Francisco. We are having an invite-only press event that we’re going to have some cool news that I’m not quite fully briefed on, but we have a lot of news that we’re going to be announcing," said Nelson in his latest podcast.

“Just telling you guys, you’re going to be really happy when you hear all the news, that’s all I can say.” Whenever it is taking place this week Microsoft won't be giving anything away before it all kicks off. Gears of War 3 and Forza Motorsport 4 are likely to show up.

"I can confirm that there will be a Microsoft showcase this week in San Francisco,” said a Microsoft UK representative. “We’re not sharing details of the event beforehand, but look forward to revealing the news and experiences at the event.”

What news do you hope Microsoft will be keen to share?

This has peaked my interest somewhat. I'm not sure what I 'hope' they'll share, but I'm expecting it to be new features for the Xbox dashboard. Perhaps the ability to use YouTube?

Judging by the news that came across my desk, it'll probably be the announcement of Kinect for PC.
