Eidos post image of Thief 4, playtest shot shows third-person

Developer Eidos Montreal has posted a photograph of Thief 4 being playtested at the studio. It shows leading man Garrett, bow in hand, in third-person.

Very little is known about Thief 4 as Eidos and Square Enix have kept quiet. At least fans know to expect third-person views in the game, at least during archery.

The posted image of the playtest at Eidos Montreal was spotted by JeuxVideo (translated) where they mention a mixture of the third-person view is used when Garrett is travelling, climbing and using archery. This image at least proves it true for archery.

Are you looking forward to Thief 4, videogamer?

Thief 1 and 2 are two of my favourite all time sneak games.

Thief 3: DS was a bit meh though, especially so with its third person mode optional perspective.

So i'll say this blunty and hope a dev is reading. Unless Thief 4 has first person perspective ONLY, like the original games had, then I dont give a crap about this new game. I dont want to see any third person bullshit like Deus Ex: Human Revolution is doing, happening in another one of my all time fave games. By changing the dynamic of gameplay like that you are losing a customer.

See Ken Levine's view on why first person perspective provides a much better gaming experience:

I can't believe I was actually optimistic about this.

I really hope you dont HAVE to play in third person perspective.Thats one of the things I loved about the first three games,it looked like you were actually looking through Garrets eyes.
