Crytek head Cevat Yerli confirms the studio is happy to jump at a third full instalment to the Crysis franchise, though he swears this is 'no formal announcement'.
There "is a plan" already in place for how the fiction of Crysis "should roll out," but a trilogy must wait on Crysis 2's performance, which is due end of March.
"We definitely want to make Crysis 3. I'm not making a formal announcement. We'd like to make Crysis 3 but the second game needs to be successful first," noted Crytek's Cevat Yerli. "I will mention that there is a plan for how the fiction of Crysis should roll out, but again, it depends on the success of Crysis 2."
Should the second game fail to meet their goals or stop short of breaking even then the series will likely come to a halt. Given the tremendous noise around the title it's unlikely anything but whopping sales will meet Crysis 2's launch week.
Crytek are keen to be more than just a first-person shooter studio outfit: "We have a bigger ability now to expand with more games. As a company we can't just make shooters, we need to breed genuinely new forms of entertainment and interactive experiences..."
"The genre may not even exist yet for that matter, so what we're keen on is games that offer new experiences for every moment the gamer plays," added Yerli. Crysis 2 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC March 22nd in the US, EU the 24th, and UK the 25th.
