Rumour: EA's Darkspore not March bound as retailers list May
Posted: 18.03.2011 11:46 by Simon Priest Comments: 17
It would seem the retailers know something we mere mortal consumers don't as they've switched out March 29th for Darkspore with dates in May.

Gamestop pegs it for May 3rd and Amazon says May 31st. Darkspore is a sci-fi action RPG based loosely on the Spore universe. No word from EA yet.

Weekend beta tests have been running for Maxis' Darkspore and perhaps they've come across enough issues to address that EA pushed the title into May? The month of May is becoming an increasingly crowded 31 days for videogames this year.

Darkspore releases exclusively on PC.

I've played the beta and honestly I'm not impressed one bit. From what I've seen this looks like a typical hack 'n' slash game. Even though I don't put much faith in reviews, I'll have to do just that before I decide to buy it.

Agree, for me the only hack 'n slash this year will most likely be Diablo 3 - unless they push it into 2012. This gameplay video didn't really entice me.

Diablo 3 is going to be more than just a simple hack 'n' slash. It's going to be EPIC unlike Darkspore.

LOL, I hope that you are right djole - I really do. All the gameplay videos from Diablo 3 is just teasing. Darkspore still hasn't got 'that' to make me interested in it.

Gameplay videos are not teasers, its rendered action. Teasing is trailers they try to pawn off as gameplay. Anyways, this game looks horrible, though, at least they have a good development time-line vs Bliz/EA these days. I know of no other software company that can work on a product for so long and not go under.

@Haddicus - gameplay is teasing me - not teasers. Meaning - I get a bit grumpy that I can't play it ;)

Well, this thing doesn't seems like Maxis's cup of tea. They'd better leave it to the experts (Blizzard) and go on make a Sims 4:) Waiting for Diablo 3...
Djole: I hope I won't be right, but Diablo 2 needed quite a bit of patches as well as LOD to become an epic, so Diablo 3 vanilla will have a hard time with the initial critics, just as D2 did.

Best thing with Blizzard is that they keep them patches coming though - they stick with their games and that is one reason I have a lot of good to say about Blizzard.

Yeah, it deserves a lot of respect. They've released the last patch for Diablo2 in 2010, TEN YEARS after release. Incredible.

And not to forget they released a patch for StarCraft just before they released StarCraft 2...

Blizzard prides themselves with a huge loving community, so they will probably launch a new patch for Diablo 2 when Diablo 3 lanches.

@ansigar
The time it took Blizzard to develop it, it better be EPIC, but I doubt they'll disappoint us.

Second that - but I have some fears - StarCraft 2 didn't blew me away as I had hoped it to do... Still a good game - but I want Diablo 3 to be a time-stealing success...

I remember a time when there were games that could ensnare your attention for weeks or even months. Nowadays there are very little if none of such games.

Nowadays my interest is gone in 1 week tops.
Thats the most you need to play a game finish/complete it and Platinum it(if available).
Really there is no game with replay value besides for the above. Like a movie you like and just want to watch it over and over again. No game like that now, at least not to me.
Last game I played more than I had to (again above) was Valkyria Chronicles, lost count of the nº of times I finished it and it still makes me cry (if you played it you know what I'm talking about).
