Hollywood is still "working on the story" for Dead Space movie

Thought that Dead Space flick had been decapitated? It continues to twitch with promise reveals director D.J. Caruso, as they're penning the story still.

The team were "trying to do a prequel" but it didn't pan out so well. Caruso wants to "capture" how scary the videogame is to play in the film.

"We're working on the story," said director D.J. Caruso (I Am Number Four). "We had one attempt of trying to do a prequel, but the story didn't quite work out as well as we wanted it to." The film is a collaboration between publisher EA and Twilight producers Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey. Angst riddled teen love triangles aren't likely - phew.

"But if we can capture how - I don't want to say, I guess, how scary or horrifying it would be to play that game because it's really, really fantastic - it'd be fun to make that into a movie." Visceral Games promise that any live action Dead Space movie would be worthy of the fans and not just some "cheap cash-in" by the studio or EA.

Why would they wanna ruin an excellent story with a movie is beyond me. Dead Space and Dead Space 2 were excellent games with great stories and I see no need to turn them into movies. This is just one of those cases of greedy movie studios wanting to make a quick buck no matter what. Oh, btw, I don't buy that "worthy of the fans" promise one bit.

One short answer - money. They want it, they use the name, and make alot of it.

The two Anime films of short stories surrounding both prequels and sequels to the games ("Downfall" and "Aftermath") give writers immense scope for story arcs and a rich treasure trove of "Dead Space" lore to draw from. Idon't thiky they are trying very hard is more due to the fact that Hollywood is short on screenwriting talent these days than anything else.

Too bad the game isn't that compelling to me. I tried the latest demo on PS3 and the game before that as well - but both were not to my liking when it came to controlls (few games are on console) and when first indications seems to show that the controls on the PC was as the first game - not optimized is a nice way to phrase it - I decided dead Space wasn't for me. A movie however could perhaps be something.
