Dead Island gets alternate US box art, no hanging figure for 'I'

Deep Silver has confirmed that Techland's zombie action title will release in the US with a different and 'toned down' box art cover. To appease ESRB?

Europe will still see a launch with the original Dead Island logo featuring a hanged figure for the letter 'I', whereas the US gets a shuffling zombie.

The ESRB has issued no comment to reports that they applied pressure to publisher Deep Silver to alter the box art. Dead Island has rocketed into the spotlight after they debuted a CGI trailer for the open world zombie survivor.

Dead Island releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC this year.

Fascist ESRB censorship. Thank God there's none of that here in Europe(except Germany maybe :D).

In Germany there will definitely be a cut version, of it even on the cover, maybe they will take the idea form USA, to bad for them.

I really don't care much about the cover, if they don't censor stuff in the game.

Depends only if the game will be cut version or un-cut.

Now - a box art that actually depicts the game should be good right?
It is about zombies - dead people walking and eating brains and go and stuff... They kill people - people kill zombies..
Don't really see why this should be troublesome.

Well maybe because the img depicts a human siluet and it may get interpreted the wrong way, so to be on a safe side they made a special one.
