Portal 2 early launch? [Update: Gotcha!]

Valve's ARG seems to be hinting at an early launch of Portal 2 for today, and we're not talking about stores breaking the street date, as some have already (with walkthrough videos flooding YouTube in the past 24 hours.)

According to Kotaku, the ARG has been poured over, and one decoding seems interesting: Messages decoded by community members also hint at a possible early launch for Portal 2. "4/19/2011_7AM=4/15/2011_9AM" implies that Valve may open the floodgates four days ahead of schedule, while other in-fiction text fragments reference early releases and being "ahead of schedule" without saying anything outright.

If that weren't enough, there's a countdown on the Aperture Science website.

Our guess? Preorders on Steam for the PC and PlayStation 3 will get early access.

Update: Gotcha! It has been replaced by this:

One has to wonder, though. "Computing power"? Bars representing Steam games and how many people are playing on each one? Is Valve stating that if people start playing Steam all at once, enough "power" will be released so Portal 2 can be released earlier? Is this like clapping your hands to resurrect Tinkerbell?

If it means I get Portal...I'll even....sigh....argh....use Steam voluntary.

Wow, that was hard to say.

Hahaha! I thought that they would release the game earlier. As a matter of fact, we all did. So, I was pretty surprised when the counter lead to this site.

Be nice if they'd pop a 360 version of the game through my letterbox a week early :)

Steam are trying a more direct approach with their propriertry game. Buy and play their Indie "Potato Sack" to force the release date sooner (a clever ploy, and one many may fall for). It will release early whether they do it or not.

It can't release early! Remember, Valve uses Valve-time! This would violate the rules of time and space, never has a Valve game been early!

If you buy the PS3 version, you get a PC code for PC Steam as well. I may actually try that and see if I can get someone to play on PS 3 and me on computer in the same room, could be nice. But I need to check the game-play videos first. Didn't really go havoc for Portal...

I'm getting the 360 version because people actually enjoy Live, unlike the mess that is PSN.

I'm getting the PC version because it has keyboard and mouse, as well as free online capability.

Unlike the mess that is a console.

I have the PS3 and a PC - my wife may enjoy it on the console - only reason part from that the PS3 version cost as much as the PC version on STEAM - so I get two licenses for the price of one going the road of PS3...

@SirRoderick:
Yeah, a console can be quite messy. If you don't have enough patience, it can give you hell. That's why I'm all for the PC version. :-D
