Heart of the Swarm demo in May

Starcraft fans are mumbling, "It's about frickin' time" as Blizzard has announced that the first preview and demonstration of Starcraft II: Heart of the Swarm, the standalone expansion that will feature the Zerg campaign, will be shown off in May.

Kotaku reportedly received an invite to see Heart of the Swarm earlier today, being promised they'd see a small portion of the game's campaign, but were also warned that they wouldn't see any of the changes or new units that would be in the final product. It's expected that Heart of the Swarm will include some RPG-like mechanics and perhaps include new Zerg units.

They were also advised not to expect Heart of the Swarm in 2011.

A Demo in May, but game not for another year at least? Scratching my head here...

Wait if StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty came out in 27.07.2010 and StarCraft: Heart of the Swarm will come out in May then the whole game will come out somewhere in March 2012.

A demo in May and the game in 2012?

That makes no sense whatsoever! The point of a demo is to be an acceptable representation of the final product isn't it?

You sure it isn't a dud? True, the next instalment of SC2 should come soon (sounds weird, isn't it?), but I highly doubt that there would be a demo this soon.

Blizzard style, the demo will be a beta testing I guess. And why not? Hit two birds with one stone....

It's not a demo for fans to play. It's a game demonstration in front of journalists.

This is quite odd.

With no added units (and lacking the new features I'll bet), what's the point? Raise interest in a game so far off it's off most gamer's radars?
I don't get it Jonah, but then I'm no games journalist:)

Weird indeed. We'll wait until May to see what did they mean :)

@ K3Spice. Probably late next year.

A demonstration? Well no problems there. We have to show our products some months in advance to get them on the shelf - regardless of how big the company is - I guess that Activision wants to show that Blizzard is actually working on something and hopefully - they want to show us (their fans) that Heart of the Swarm is worthy of getting a bit excited over. SC2 was a good game - but it lacked a soul IMO. It was good, fun at some times but it lacked a whole danged something when it came to being enjoyed unless you are some Korean super player that can log in 20 commands or more per second.

@ FoolWolf. What's that last line suposed to mean?
By SirRoderick (SI Elite) on Apr 27, 2011

That the koreans are obsessively good at Starcraft and that the game is basically a competition of APM.

Exactly what SirRoderick managed to say in less and more exact words then I did! :)

Quite a few Australians play professionally now too. We now have Tournaments here, along with several other games.

We had a show off in Sweden that was televised and followed by day press and all - we had a few home coming pro's one which is a pro in Korea - though he didn't perform well at all at this tournament....
