EA ask Command & Conquer fans for suggestions on new game

The Command & Conquer team at EA have noticed their changes in C&C4: Tiberian Twilight didn't exactly go down a treat with fans, and so now ask for input.

They say the "most discussed and loved ideas" will reach the development team. Hopefully they include more traditional base building, and less gimmicky units.

"The most discussed and loved ideas will be passed on to the developer team,” says the EA C&C forum. “So be sure to bring your idea onto our community table. Maybe it will be your idea, which changes everything!” Ideas are already flooding in.

Command & Conquer 4 was quite the disaster with fans as it proved too much of a change from the roots of the series. What it needs, in my humble C&C-lovin' opinion, is more 'plain gameplay' with special unit abilities mostly stripped out - they're horrible.

Let us build walls again so we can turtle, let us pour out an armoured column again without having to micromanage each one's abilities, give us back our 'pure' campaigns where one side wins and the other loses big time. What should C&C 5 be, videogamer?

I would like a complete C&C 4 reboot. Tiberian Twilight was a complete disaster and worse, an unforgivable insult to C&C fans.

Command & Conquer: Generals 2.

@Eversor
Hmmm, I agree. Generals 2 would bring some refreshment to the series.

I want to see Tiberium (the FPS) shooter come out... Failing that, I'd like to see a Red Alert game (NOT Red Alert 2) come out, without all the time-travel gimmicks and stuff.

"C&C Dune: The Machine Wars" for me....or "Generals 2".
I wholeheartedly agree with getting rid of the special unit abilities units...they ruined "Red Alert 3" for me, along with the cartoon graphics.
So,
1/ Return to Arrakis
2/ Crisper, cutting edge graphics
3/ Higher zoom scale (not the up close and personal-only zoom level in "3" & "4").

A new Tiberium game or Generals as suggested above will be glad to see...a game with base management, great graphics and a well-written story....also a very but very polished gameplay...

As long as the Scrin don't return and they just chuck everything about "C&C 4", "RA 3" in the wastebasket and concentrate on NOD and the GDI, Tiberium country might be a path to success. But honestly, I'm all 'Kane'd-out'.
By Eversor (SI Elite) on May 19, 2011

Don't you like the scrin?

I fear the Generals 2 if it will be released by em...honestly since Westwood gone..every C&C title is a mess. Generals was on 80-90% made by Westwood... And did U noticed that Gen has many mods, while other C&C don't have much. (at least completed one's).

Dune would be awesome. Still remember playing Dune 2000 (I think thats the name), great game.
By Eversor (SI Elite) on May 19, 2011

@PowerJack. Dune is not a setting in which CnC should be set. Generals, RA and the Tiberian Universe are the places CnC is and should stay.

Well we all know (or should) that "C&C" was the successor to "Dune 2" and the two are seperate, but I'd far prefer a return to Arrakis over Tiberian country any day...and yeah, I hate the Scrin. There's a wealth of new content available for the Dune universe based on Brian Herbert's works (son of the original's authour, Frank). The Machine Wars would be a fantastic setting (set well before the orignal Dune storyline).
So for me, it would have to be "Generals 2" building on "C&C G: Zero Hour".

Oh yes good idea there Herod. Dune would get me going! There weren't so many of those in Dune theme. And there were plenty of usual C&C's.

Base building + some sort of an economy + no super units
I prefer the Red alert universe over tiberium, dune and generals, but i'll take anything as long it's an actual C&C game.

Dune isn't part of C&C. Dune is Dune. While both C&C and Dune are in the RTS style and have similar gameplay, I don't think that EA should make a C&C 'Dune' game.
By herodotus (SI Herodotus) on May 20, 2011
herodotus
They won't. Not since "Emperor: Battle for Dune" has there been Dune-themed game (aside from Mods for "C&C 3"). Westwood made "Dune 2", which was confusing to many as there was an Adventure game released just prior to it called "Dune". Then they made "C&C" which proved more popular (as many who had discovered the RTS genre thru "Dune 2" were far more exposed to the lavish avertising for "C&C"...still remember all the magazine covers, and still have some). I put hours into "Dune 2", then tried "C&C" and was rather disappointed at the time. Much preferred "RA 2" when it came out, and "C&C Generals" blew me away it was such a large leap forward (graphically and gameplay-wise).

Yeah. There really isn't any RTS game like C&C, DOW and Supreme Commander and it's ex pack.

A new DUNE would be amazing! I absolutely LOVE that movie, and the whole philosophy behind it. It would be my boundless pleasure just to hear "The spice extends life, the spice expands consciousness" once again in a video game!

@Eversor
i know Dune is not a c&c game. I wasn't clear enough, i meant as long as it's a game with an actual c&c gameplay.
It's not so much about the universe but the gameplay itself, but like I said I'd still prefer Red Alert over the others, with Tiberium second.

Bring on the Harkonen Buzz-saw tanks and the worms!
"The Duke will die before my eyes, and he'll know, he'll know that it is I, Baron Vladymir Harkonen that brought his about doom"....or something like that.
Just finished reading "House Atreides" by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson (the first in a trilogy) so I'm pumped for "Dune".

Don't get too excited. You don't know for sure if the next C&C will be Dune based or not.

That's some title to live up to, and I don't really wish to be blinded...downer.
Bought the soundtrack to "Chilren of Dune", so I can have that playing in the background while I read:)
Finish the three prequels then start on the "The Machine Wars". So much subject matter for games there, as with the " Star Wars X-Wing" novels (ten in all).
@Eversor
I don't think I'll be seeing a "Dune" game anytime soon either...but one can but hope.
By Eversor (SI Elite) on May 22, 2011
Eversor
Hope is a good thing. You know I think it's pretty lame that EA is asking fans what they would like to have in the next C&C. It shows that they don't have too much imagination.

You can just see them stamping their little EA Dev feet:
"Dammit...what do they want. We've tried evrything from cartoon graphics (tee-hee), uber units (yeehaw) to B-Grade cut scenes (yee ha). But nothing seems to make them happy. Brainwave - maybe we should ask..."

@Eversor: I think asking the fans is a smart move, it doesn't particularly show anything like a lack of imagination, more a willingness to go with the times.

They should use Yuri to control our minds in a way that we would love to see more cartooney soviet females in the upcoming title.
By Eversor (SI Elite) on May 24, 2011

@ Hero. That's what I was thinking.

@Jasca_Ducato. Does Ubisoft ask what fans want in Splinter cell or Ghost Recon? Does THQ and Relic ask what fans want in Dawn of War? I don't think so. So with that in mind, asking fans what they want in the next game does show a lack of imagination.
By Jasca_Ducato (SI Core) on May 24, 2011
Jasca_Ducato
Yes, they do. Ubisoft recently posted a questionnaire online with regards to the Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell series. The AC forums also feature several threads dedicated to gathering fan feedback and suggestions for future games.

Studios have been asking the consumer what they want for years; they may not have been as open about it as EA are being, but it happens.

For all of the other dune lovers out there i thought i would share this.
http://rockstorm-games.net/dws/
it seems rockstorm games is in the process of making a new dune RTS called war of the spice but i wouldnt get your hopes up because the page was last updated in february.
I would love to see a Dune the Machine Wars game it would be a refreshing change on the classic dune RTS but still staying in the dune universe they could even keep the 3 faction model if they put it after the cymek revolt
