This early June will see the return of Hellgate as a short closed beta will run from the 3rd to the 5th, and it will launch fully as a free-to-play MMO later in 2011.

Team up or go solo to fight evil and choose between "six different unique class types". Hellgate is an action-RPG being reworked by T3 Entertainment.

Korean MMO developer T3 is behind the revival of Hellgate, which was originally created and handled by Flagship Studios before it fell into financial collapse. HanbitSoft Inc and Redbana are acting as the game's publishers in Asia and North America respectively.

"Players are invited to return to Hellgate this June to fight for the survival of the human race. Join a party online to fight against evil with a team or play solo if you’re brave enough. Choose your character from six different unique class types and prepare for battle against creatures from hell," blurbs the release.

"Arm yourself with a wide variety of weapons and armor and dismantle the ones you don’t need to obtain rare scrap metals. Enhance your weapons with upgrades and relics to have the best chance of survival."

The original game, Hellgate: London, featured a subscription model to play online with other fans but it proved too difficult for Flagship to manage and eventually closed. For more on Hellgate's return visit the official T3 Entertainment site. Did you play Hellgate?

I almost bought into the hype of "H:L" but resisted, as I will with this. I do question resurrecting a past IP with regard to financial returns, and many who played under Flagship's banner will no doubt be wary.

I bought it played it, got tired of it and then the game shut down and I was meh - cause I had already tired of it. Nice idea - but the game lacked a lot of why? how? and when? and most importantly WHY?
You didn't get that much help and some of the classes were really weak. I also had troubles finding some on-line buddies to go hunting with so playing alone - made you an expert of sneaking up to aggression point and pick one by one. Yeah - fun--- or no it wasn't that much fun.-..
