Modern Warfare 3 "locked" at 60 FPS, a "core design principle"

Infinity Ward has confirmed that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, much like its predecessors since Call of Duty 2, runs at a solid 60 frames per second on console.

This will undoubtedly please fans of the series that have gotten used to that extra comfort of smooth running and gunning. It's a "core design principle" for Infinity.

"Absolutely, locked at 60 Frames Per Second. That is a core design principle for us and especially for #MW3," twittered creative strategist Robert Bowling of Infinity Ward. He also revealed the full site for MW3 will launch "in time with the NBA reveal in the US."

Most other shooters sit around the 30 FPS benchmark but Call of Duty has strictly adopted 60 FPS, giving it an extra edge over the competition among first-person shooter fans. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC November 8th.

Looks epic, but the story is going to be ridiculous. WWIII just happens to have its main theatres in the capitals of the world?

To PC constant 60 fps should be easy, for any console its a little difficult.

This is funny, had this been a news for PC players -they would have ranted and cursed - now it is a feature to be proud of. :)

I can't think of one multiplatform that really is just another word for "port-to-PC" that doesn't swim along, aside from any bugs, glitches or poor coding. Locked at 60fps doesn't let us PC gamers off the hook, as we learned with "BlOps"...things can and will go wrong.

What "BF 3" has to do with a "CoD" article I'll never know, but the two will co-exist quite nicely as "MW 2" does with "BF:BC 2".

I just hope that FPS cap will be the biggest problem of this game.

I've been waiting for this since I completed COD 6 MW 2.

I'm hoping that they will get back to the tempo of MW2 - and preferably a bit looser with the story telling. I'm not a big fan of interactive stories and while MW series have succeeded in making a blast in the campaign BLOPS showed us what a terrible idea it is to have to walk for ages before getting to play. It turns into Metro 2033 :S You wait five minutes to play a frantic battle that is over in 3...

...which is about how long it takes for me to die in "Metro 2033":)

@ Herodotus. Isn't Metro 2033 supposed to be very graphically inclined?

I liked Metro tbh and I didn't really die that much at all in the game, the highest difficulty was just so hard because you had almost no bullets xD

Potatoking is a spambot - check the links he has linked to with Google and you see that everyone of them turns out as spam and forums blocking them....

I didn't like Metro 2033 one bit. It had a nice story - but the game was too uneven - never really wanting to let go of being either a game or an interactive story - it let you loose when you needed guidance the most and controlled you when you wanted freedom the most IMO.

Maybe, but the thing I liked most was it's atmosphere, the feeling that it gave you, a bit like STALKER.
By stuntkid (SI Elite) on May 25, 2011

Yeah thats what I liked about Metro and Stalker. Back on topic: MW3's storyline might go a bit mad - so hectic and a bit random by the time MW2 finished
By FoolWolf (SI Elite) on May 25, 2011
FoolWolf
And not to forget that last you were at it... you were in gold ol' USA - and Russia, and all over the place...

But I guess that we will still see hectic - MW and BLOPS have that as their main theme...

I didn't even finish the SP of MW2 because the story sucked so much xD

Played through "MW 2"'s Sp three times I enjoye it so much - the plot twists, action and double-crosses that for many were disjointed entertained the hell out of me. Perhaps I don't get out often enough.

I think the SP campaign in MW2 was OK - short - but OK. It bit too restrictive for my liking - but I liked it for the tempo and the general story plot. Sure - not a stellar experience but for a shooter - it's ok - and beats the crap out of Homefront...
By Eversor (SI Elite) on May 26, 2011

I did the SP in about 3 hours and 45 minutes. Pretty short for a game that I paid nearly 100 $ bucks for. About getting games done in short order, I recently completed Soldier of Fortune 1's SP story in about 45 minutes.
By FoolWolf (SI Elite) on May 26, 2011

That is quick. I usually check my STEAM games - but I am a bit hesitant cause the timing sometimes doesn't work - but you can there see how much you play the game. If you divide the price with gaming hours - you can easily see how much you get out of them. ;)
By Thibby (SI Core Veteran) on May 26, 2011
Thibby
Thats why I try to buy games with a good MP, most of my games where only 1 euro/hour if you divide them price/time, I think thats a nice rate. If I buy an SP only game like Uncharted I usually play like 20-30 hours in total, which is 2 euros an hour xp So if I choose a game I'll probably go for a game with a nice MP like BF.
By FoolWolf (SI Elite) on May 27, 2011
FoolWolf
Yeah if possible, that is a good approach Thibby. But look at Fallout NV - even though buggy and I un-installed it in a fury a few nights ago - I saw almost 60 hours invested in that game. Sure I got the collectors edition so that is roughly 1€/hour.
By Eversor (SI Elite) on May 27, 2011

Never played Fallout, almost had a chance but didn't. Didn't play the Stalker games either.
By FoolWolf (SI Elite) on May 27, 2011

Fallout games are OK - if you can survive the idea that they are not really the same as the original Fallout. Par from that - decent FPS/3rd person game with loads of quest, some exploring and FPS rpg elements.- Try the first - less bugs.

I play Fallout 3 at the moment and I must say that the game is MUCH MORE pleasant with a dozen of mods. Vanilla Fallout 3 just doesn't seem so post-apocalyptic, but after I installed all of these mods, I found the game to be really enjoyable. Since Fallout 1 and 2 were (and still are) one of my favorite games of all time, I think that Fallout 3 didn't fulfill my expectations. But it's quite natural that transforming from 2d to 3d engine would bring a totally new and unexpected atmosphere.
By FoolWolf (SI Elite) on May 27, 2011
FoolWolf
Yeah, the mods make the game, it's like all Bethesda games - Vanilla - slightly amusing - with mods - great games. I hope though that Elder Scrolls V will be different and that most of the custom mods won't be necessary as they will have taken a deep look at what people wants before they make the game....

Vanilla "Fallout 3"...shiver.

When I say "never played Fallout", I mean all of them. I won Fallout 3 here on SI, but even though I requested it for PC, it came on XB 360. Huge dissapointment as I couldn't even get cash for it new and sealed at Gamestop. Reason for that being that I had to have proof that it wasn't stolen, which was not possable as I didn't buy it.
By bosnian_dragon (SI Core) on May 28, 2011
bosnian_dragon
Heh, well, you can try to sell it to someone in your neihborhood half a price or something?
By FoolWolf (SI Elite) on May 28, 2011
FoolWolf
Now the game isn't worth that much and I agree - that game on console would be a pain in the butt!
Still, if you have missed Fallout and Fallout 2 - you may like Fallout 3 and New Vegas better then the old schoolers of us do ;)
By unsilviu (SI Core) on May 28, 2011
unsilviu
New Vegas was nice, but it paled in F3's shadow. Tried to play F1, never got past the first 5 minutes :P
By FoolWolf (SI Elite) on May 28, 2011
FoolWolf
LOL, you didn't play it in time then I guess ;) Or you did and just don't like isometric games.

New Vegas was what Fallout 3 should have been, but NV tries too hard in too many areas and nothing gets really good - only just misses it all the time and of course - it has more bugs then Fallout 3 and Oblivion together....

@ Bosnian_Dragon. I did sell it to my cousin who is suposed to pay me twenty bucks. He ain't paid me yet. But he's supposed to get a summer time job now that school's out.
