Sony: We're NOT working on PS4
Posted: 29.05.2011 16:09 by JonahFalcon Comments: 17
A few days after Sony CFO Masaru Kato stated that the PlayStation 4 was in development, the Sony brass has refuted that claim through their public relations.

A Sony spokesperson stated Mr Kato’s comments were "taken out of context", and that Kato actually meant their development of the NGP (now evidenced to be called the PlayStation Vita). This is supposed to be Sony's response to Project Cafe, albeit it would be more of a competitor to the Nintendo 3DS. Sony's line is that the Vita would be their hot new device to grab attention from the new Nintendo console.

Of course, it's safe to say that Sony probably is developing the PS4 - just as Microsoft has already begun work on the Xbox 720 - but they're not prepared to release any information on it now.

Development are probably already in the works and have been for some time. In an aggressive business as the console market - they have to coinstantly checknew tech and be aware of what they want to offer the audience next. It's after all how they can stay in the business.

"Taken from context" is a typical excuse. I wonder do they really think that only kids play video games? :D

Lolz, I don't think that kids care about stuff like this, when there is a new console they buy it, I don't think they follow gaming news :)

I think I said in another piece: "You can't trust anything that comes out of Sony's mouths these days".
Well, you can't. You can see the thinking - "This will harm PS3 sales, so shut that news piece down".

Lol. As if some with a brain believes in anything that they say, of course they are already developing a new console, if not then they should retire already.

Unfortunately, I don't think it is only kids that will buy into corporate BS - but also many of the more casual oriented gamers that don't have or want to spend time. They hear a few scrapes of news here and there and they tend to believe the majority of time owners in media -i.e big corporations.

I really don't understand why they have to keep this stuff TOP SECRET. First they say ok since everyone is talking about it we are going to tell everyone that we are working on the ps4. Now its No No we are not working on a ps4.. really?? like we are going to belive that, I would actually be more intrested in buying one if real news leaked out, besides most people dont even know how to use google news search so why keep it top secret. Im sure it was like that in past console generation releases, this is first time im participing in a release I guess im not used to this nonsense yet, Besides maybe the console generation around 2018 I wouldnt be into video games.. but then again we might be close to virtual reality systems by then which is what im waiting for.

If they don't keep the lid on - people will argue that a buy now is not ideal and since SONY just will get out one day and say that there are no more PS3's to buy because they are making a new one - you will always have a period of time between consoles that is a fog and mirror play...

Sony leaks everything, watch what they did with the NGP, months before the official announcement everyone allready knew that it existed.

Maybe they just want to have this media attention :)

Well, it certainly beats "oh another hacker-threat-sensation...". Releasing some "mystic" news about an upcoming project could perhaps intrigue people to believe that SONY actually has a future ;)
