Battlefield 1918 mod for BF1942
Posted: 30.05.2011 23:53 by Comments: 10
Why play in 1942 when you can go back to The Great War and be a Doughboy fighting the Kaiser?

A new total conversion for Battlefield 1942, appropriately called Battlefield 1918, radically overhauls the game to include that period's equipment and vehicles, while shifting forcus to artillery, trenches, relatively slow vehicles and brand new teamwork.

The game features battles such as the Turkish battlefields at Gallipoli, the Eastern front where Germany and Austria-Hungaria fought against Russia, the Italian front and even the battles in Africa.

Check out the trailer in the video below.

Gallipoli would be alright if I could play as an ANZAC infantryman. Now Turkey and Aus/NZ are united with in commemorating the Gallipoli Campaign (thanks Winston, we owe you one - a big dump on your statute should do it) it'd be interesting to play online against them.
As long as it's treated with respect and good taste, I don't mind, but re-enacting the slaughter at ANZAC Cove might be a touchy subject here. It is still a hallowed day. Be like re-enacting the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising, where the Russian Army just sat outside Warsaw's gates and let the Polish Resistance fighters be slaughtered.

Nice catch Jonah! Mod looks great. Unfortunately I don't have the game anymore. Not sure where I bought it. Somewhere online hm...

Well, 1918 is a quite interesting period as Hero states - still a hot topic. A game in that period has to take a few things into consideration - as a shooter it can be a bit tedious and boring - needs to have close fighting options to par with that.

BFBC2 doesn't have an old engine, it runs on FB 1.5 xp
BF2 certainly looked better than BF1942 and it was easy to make mods on.

Didn't say it had an old engine, said it would be the better choice - but then again - I haven't tried making mods so perhaps BF2 is better as you say because it is easier to make mods to.

A great war mod would be interesting - to play a trenches deep with mustard gas could truly be a horrendous experience, not to say really tough to play with impaired vision - pot shots and all of a sudden flame throwers...

I think that if its balanced enough that it could be fun, but if Machine Guns or Arty would be able to tear you apart like in reality it would be fun for the guys manning the MG or Arty but not for the rest.

Well, artillery wasn't all that mobile back then and communications weren't top notch either - so arty could be dangerous to everyone - regardless of who is firing ;)

This might actually be good.
