Ubisoft announces Far Cry 3

Ubisoft have officially announced Far Cry 3 at their E3 press conference

The announcement came with a substantial debut trailer, which revealed that the game has returned to its desert island roots, forsaking the African setting of the second game.

Players will assume the role of Jason Brody, who becomes marooned on said island after his boat is mysteriously destroyed, and, in the words of Dan Haye of Ubisoft Montreal, have no choice but to survive being "trapped on a desert island with a dark secret".

The trailer showcased a number of new features, including a first person-cover system, an advanced stealth and melee combat, and more detailed full-body interaction. And of course it looks very, very pretty to boot, shunning the rather brown look of the second game for a more lush, vibrant aesthetic.

Perhaps Ubisoft missed the "Crysis" games while sunning themselves in Africa. An island...again?

Watching the gameplay trailer of this, I'll agree with JonahFalcon. It looks really well put together!

I was drawn in by the trailers and hype for "FC 2", so this time I'll wait no matter how enticing the trailers are. It'll be hard, but having been bitten savagely by Ubisoft with three Premium title releases in 12 months, it might just be worth waiting for the reviews, and the inevitable price drop (something Ubi does faster than many competitors).

For me this was one of the best trailers of E3 so far. Looks soooo good. Loving the Einstein quote!

Trailers don't show how the feel is in the game-play, nor how many time you have to do the things you see over and over again.
Gameplay movies are like commercials - only to show the good stuff. Is when the leaked gameplay vids of ten to twenty minutes comes up you can start to see what it is all about.
Enticing so far? Sure - do you wait because you have seen what happened in Far Cry 2? - yes indeed.

Hopefully this will be more along the lines of the first Far Cry like it says.
