DICE and EA's Battlefield 3 has gotten a huge 8 minute long gameplay trailer for the 'Thunder Run’ tank battle level in the game, available in glorious 1080p.

It involves rolling an armoured column over the desert searching for some bad guys. The entire demo was from the PC version and it's visually stunning.

This level was shown off at EA's E3 conference. Battlefield 3 releases on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC November 1st in the US, the 4th in Europe. The gameplay footage below follows Marine Sgt. Miller as he takes part in a major tank assault on the outskirts of Tehran.

Great freaking trailer. Hopefully this kills the BS known as CoD.

Oh yes that's what life is all about. I'm sold.

It looks really awesome.

herodotus favourite and biggest scoring vehicle. Prefer the T-90 to the Abrams, but this is great stuff. bring on the game, and I'll see you guys in my main gun sights:)
ps. The graphics look fantastic.

Gonna be the best looking shooter thus far. I'll vote for the best shooter ever. See how I'm excited :p but I don't think they can mess it up. 5-10 patches and it'll be rolling.

I can't wait to play on the Iranian side :) Those Abrams tanks would be pawned by Zulfiqar 3 :p

I'm pretty sure that any modern mbt can kill any other mbt - if given the chance. So yes, they actually could have :).

Just watched some video footage of MP in action. This game is going to redefine modern FPS's and the MP shooter experience. The new Class reorganistaion is excellent (Riflemen now carry medkits, engineers carry anti-armour weapons). Positively spiffing, what ho!
Activision, for the first time "CoD" is seriously up against it.

That Zulfiqar 3 looks like it could get destroyed by throwing rocks at it...
By bosnian_dragon (SI Core) on Jun 08, 2011
Yes it looks robust and "clumsy", but the reactive armor would probably throw away those rocks in the thrower's head :p

The T-72 family just keeps on a'rockin'.
By bosnian_dragon (SI Core) on Jun 09, 2011
Well, the fact that Zulfiqar is somewhere between Abrams and T-72 shows that it's a unique design which combined the American and Russian versions. I'm sure it would do well in MBT battle ;) Composite armor on the front, and probably (like most of modern MBT tanks) reactive armor included. I'm just saying that in my opinion, US tanks wouldn't approach Teheran so easily :) I hope that will never happen (the war between Iran and USA) because that would bring a total chaos to the whole world.

I suspect I wouldn't win a fight against it with a rock ok :p But never heard of it. So it's a good tank? Not sure what's its tech level compared to Abrams. Reactive armor sounds fancy.

It's not confirmed by NATO, but Iranian sources indicate that Zulfiqar 3 has entered serial production. NATO probably lacks info because of the isolation of Iran, but considering that this tank was designed sometime during the past 10 years it should have modern armor and weapon systems. The sources clearly state that Abrams is more sophisticated (technology wise) but that doesn't necessarily mean that it's better in all conditions :) Less sophisticated = less breakdowns :D

Basic info:
The Zulfiqar 3 main battle tank is a further development of the Zulfiqar 2 and is sometimes referred as the Zolfaqar.
The tank is armed with a 125 mm smoothbore gun 2A46 derived from the T-72, which is fitted with a fume extractor and may be fed by an automatic loader.
The suspension is modelled on the M48 / M60 Patton tanks supplied to Iran by the U.S.
The tank has a distinctive box-shaped turret.
It weighs in at 40 tonnes and has a 1,500 hp diesel engine (1.000 hp diesel used in Zulfiqar 1&2).
For the Zulfiqar/T-72 fleet, the Ammunition Group of the Iranian Defense Industries Organization mass produces a standard high explosive 23 kilograms (51 lb) propellant charge which fires the 3 kg warhead at a muzzle velocity of 850 metres per second (2,800 ft/s).
The Zulfiqar-1 uses the Slovenian EFCS-3 fire control system, the same model used on the Type 72Z ("Safir-74"), providing 'fire-on-the-move' technology.
The Iranian tanks are also using Laser targeting system, Night vision system and several other offensive and defensive systems.
