After Far Cry 3's scintillating debut at Ubisoft's E3 press briefing, the publisher has revealed a few more details about the first person shooter sequel.

The game started development immediately after Far Cry 2 was launched. Lead narrative designer Jason Vandernberghe says the new gameworld has been in the works for a very long time. Far Cry 3 is also trying to recapture the tone and feel of the first game, though some of the fan favorites from Far Cry 2 will probably be retained, like digging out bullets with a knife.

Vandernberghe also stated with regards to hang gliders, “We can’t tell you about that, but it is a marquee feature. One of the things we heard from fans on Far Cry 2 was it was hard to get around, so we’re looking at new ways to fix that.”

Far Cry 3 will be released on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 sometime next year.

Nice pics. It's great to see Far Cry returing to it's Science Fiction roots. Far Cry 2 was basically a story about what happens all the time in Africa.

I'm afraid returning to yet another tropical island is my biggest sticking point. Perhaps it's because I gew up in the Tropics, surrouned by this very environment that it doesn't bare any "wow" moments. "Crysis" was more than enough for me.

Since that's so, what did you think of Crysis 2?
