Rumor: Is Battlefield 3 being stripped to sell DLC?
Posted: 13.06.2011 08:58 by Comments: 20
A nasty rumor has sprung up amongst the Battlefield community that Electronic Arts has begun stripping content from Battlefield 3 to sell as downloadable content.

According to a post on Reddit, the newly revealed Physical Warfare Pack includes weapons, add-ons and new maps that will initially be exclusive to GAME and Gamestation stores in the UK. However, it seems that this content may be stuff that was removed from the game.

According to the source, "There’s probably no chance that anyone is going to see this comment but I’ll leave it anyway. I have a very good relationship with a person at DICE, who I don’t want to out, who came to me when the physical warfare pack was announced to get me to look through forums to find negative feedback about the pack that he could give to his superiors at EA. He was pissed that they had announced it without the go ahead of DICE and wanted to show EA the reactions of the community. He said they now have to do similar packs in other country’s in order to keep the balance."

Publishers stripping content from games to sell as DLC has been one of the biggest fears among the gaming community. This accusation has already been leveled to a lesser degree at L.A. Noire, in which some claim that Rockstar is selling content they couldn't fit onto the PS3 Blu-Ray and the Xbox 360 DVD-9 discs. However, if true, Electronic Arts is premeditatedly gouging gamers with an incomplete game and charging them to finish it.

We'll stay on this story and see if there's an official response from Electronic Arts on the matter.

There is also a big post on rock paper shotgun about how this DLC will only be available to customers who pre-order. period. meaning customers who wait for reviews of the product will never be able to have the weapons and equipment.

No surprise to be honest guys. i have never been a massive fan of DLC but i guess i will have to get with the times shortly. Be nice if the games got cheaper though.

So EA has been "outed", but any thinking gamer (90% of us) would know that already. DLC announced for "DNF" before it's release and Sega/CA 'releasing' DLC that's already in the game (the "Total War" series) or as Pre-order bonuses. Even Relic and THQ are guilty of this, with DLC included in patches, but the gamer must pay to unlock it.
What a rip!

Maybe somebody could figure out how to unlock it. That's of course stealing, at least to who ever releases it.

That's why so many are linked to Steam - you can't hack the DLC content, and if you try - BAM. There goes your Game Library. You don't own games connected with Steam, you simply buy the service for the game. If Steam so deem it, you lose your games.

We should buy EA stocks. Ok but don't get me seriously on that. Anyway this sounds like a punch to the BF3 enthusiasts like myself... Sounds quite reasonable though if you think about it from their perspective. What are they losing anyway by this move?

Ok if this is true they just lost a pretty much guaranteed sale, or at best i'll wait for the 'gold edition' that includes everything. I refuse to be milked penny by penny.

The biggest mistake for DiCE was a decision to cooperate with this EA neo-capitalist scum.

Well, thing is that the dust is settling down - left is a time limited exclusivity and Karkand can be bought later on. I wonder how these rumours start... ;)

If these people are really doing this, it means that they are lazy.
