Patrice Désilets was instrumental in the creation of Assassin's Creed franchise which exploded in popularity and sales, but now he officially works at THQ.

The former Ubisoft developer is finally free of his contractual obligations and so begins work at THQ's new Montreal studio. Only now is he revealing his new project.

As the fine print of many contracts within the games industry stipulate that the higher up talent can't just jump ship, THQ has been kept in the dark just as much as we when it comes to Patrice Désilets' new idea for a videogame project.

"Yeah. I'm really excited," said THQ's Danny Bilson last week. "I have no idea what he's making. That's the absolute truth. That's not just for depositions. I have no idea. I could swear it on my children's head. I do not know."

"But the great thing is on Monday, I'm going to call him up and go Patrice, what do you want to make? And he's going to tell me. I'm hoping I love it. I think I will."

"He's fantastic. He's a great talent, and we're really excited to put him to work on Monday." Bilson says he loves the Assassin's Creed universe. "The only way you can make great games is to bring in great talent. We've been very focused on that. Patrice, he's been sitting on a bench for a year waiting to get to work. I can't wait," he continued.

Can Désilets work that Assassin-Templar magic over at THQ in Montreal?

Wise choice Patrice. THQ at least very Liberal to developers. (In my opinion). And it's one of my favorite Corporation. (WH 40K and others).

I'm sure many more will be abandoning Ubisoft as their contracts end. I still don't know why any sane developer would sign on, as the quality has steadily dropped.

"Homefront" is migrating over to THQ Montreal after the closure of THQ NY offices, so he may be put to work straight away on trying to pull that mess out of it's mire. As for the closure - more jobs lost in the industry.
