Crysis 2 'exclusive' to EA's Origin

Publisher EA has recently relaunched their EA Store and EA Download Manager as the all-new Origin digital distribution service as they expand online.

It seems Crysis 2, developed by Crytek and published by EA, is going to be a digital exclusive to Origin as the shooter is suddenly delisted from Steam.

In fact the Origin store page for Crysis 2 says "buy now - only on Origin". Currently other digital stores like Impulse and Direct2Drive still offer the title but that may change soon enough. Otherwise EA is specifically targeting Steam - the biggest player.

EA already mentioned that Origin would be getting exclusive content with future EA titles. Other releases from the publishing giant remain on Steam like Dragon Age 2, Bulletstorm, Need for Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed and the more recent Alice: Madness Returns.

Time will tell if EA plan on expanding this digital exclusivity.

This is odd.

I don't think it's a great move on EA's part. I think it will hurt sales by avoiding steam.

I believe this will be a litmus test to see if they can have battlefield 3 as an origin exclusive.

Trouble is like so many Digital Stores, the pricing is Regionalised so "Crysis 2" (along with most other AAA titles) is $80 for Australia. Even Impulse, now owned by Gamestop has brought this highly unpopular pricing policy in and it's now becoming impossible to bypass these heavy-hitting retail prices.
Pretty damn poor effort when we don't even get to own the game, if connected to Steam or EA.
I have to find a friend in the US so I can buy games at an acceptable price, or continue to shop on EBay...

IF they didn't, who did then.

@ Powerjack. That's right, physical copies of games are the best.

Canucks!? Didn't they just lose their chance at winning the Stanley Cup?? Man if only the Flames had been there....
Anyway! :)
Sounds like a dumb move by EA. But! I think buying games online digitally sucks ass, unless you have a 500GB per second download speed. So I don't really care what EA does. I don't even think EA cares what it does. Sure don't sound like it anyways... :S

Yeah I had to work that evening, so I had to miss the riot and the game. :(
But hey, at least the better team won the Cup! :)

You can either love'em or hate'em, cause you are one and you can't change a thing about that.
