According to tech site The DigiTimes, Sony's Taiwan-based component manufacturers will begin putting together the PlayStation 4 by the end of this year.
Foxconn and Pegatron Technology will be shoring up 20 million units at least for a 2012 launch, continues the report. It's got full body motion "like Kinect".
The chance of this being accurate? Very unlikely. "Sony will have Taiwan-based partners begin production of PlayStation 4 (PS4) featuring body movement-based control like Kinect at the end of 2011 for launch in 2012, according to Taiwan-based component makers."
"Foxconn and Pegatron Technology, assemblers of PS3, will undertake assembly of PS4 as well, the sources pointed out. The planned shipment volume of PS4 in 2012 is at least 20 million units, the sources indicated," continued .
Sony is adamant the PlayStation 3 has a good 10 years before it will start to retire. Nintendo launches the Wii U console next year after April. Microsoft is believed to be unveiling a new Xbox console for E3 2012 with a release in 2013 speculated.
