New details have emerged about Relic's highly anticpated real-time strategy game, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War III, which was announced a month ago with very little information attached, save the fact it would combine the best features of the original and Dawn of War II.

Relic marketing manager James McDermott stated in an interview, "Looking at what we had real success with with Dawn of War II – Retribution, with the DLC, and with customisation and building their armies and collecting being a big part of what 40k fans really love, we want to make that a big part of DOW3."

He continued with the concept that gamers would be able to customize their own army, "There's going to be lots of opportunities to expand and build your own custom mega army, then added the intriguing concept that the game "is going to have a much larger strategic component to it, more of a global battle going on with little tactical things, sort of MMO-like".

He also announced that base-building would return in Dawn of War III. "We brought some base building back with Retribution," McDermott promised. "With DOW3, because it's going to be a new version, we're looking at the game as a whole, and we're really upping the intensity. With the 40k universe, the tagline is: there is only war. We want to give you that greater sense of the war. The battle. The war that rages eternal, and make that feel like that's really imposing and all around you, and you have your own personal, custom army in there.

"Your army and my army should feel very different. That's where we would like to get to."

McDermott also promised new fan-pleasing info would be dropped at the upcoming Gamescom convention.

Very nice. They actually decided to make it a strategy game again as opposed to being a pure tactics game.
I wonder if SC2 being so successful had anything to do with it.

Probably contributed, but general community response is likely a big factor as well.

Back?!

The fact that you ever stopped means you're crazy and should be taken into protective custody.

I've been following the progress of "DoW III" quite closely and am loving everything so far. I like the Golbal warfare concept, and welcome the return of base building. Can't wait for further updates, and of course the first screenies.
