After it's exhibition at E3 2011 where it earned critical raves, Skulls of the Shogun has been signed by Microsoft for release on Xbox Live Arcade. The retro strategy title is developed by Haunted Temple Studios, formed from the Electronic Arts LA employees laid off after Command & Conquer 4 was released.

"Microsoft totally got our vision and have been fully behind it ever since, and the support we're getting out of them has been seriously as much as I could ever ask for," studio founder Jake Kazdal stated in an interview with Gamasutra. "Our extended team is now more powerful than ever!"

Microsoft, on the other hand, was impressed by Kazdal's resume, working for Sega on Rez and on the Space Channel 5 series. Microsoft's Ted Woosley stated, "This studio has kind of the best of both worlds. On the one hand, they practically personify the kind of DIY ethos and independent spirit that’s the hallmark of today’s most exciting developers. More than that though, it’s a studio made up of AAA veterans with incredible resumes. These guys know how to ship great games, and that’s huge."

Skulls of the Shogun will be released on Xbox Live Arcade later this year.
