TrackMania dev Nadeo doesn't know if or when there will ever be mod tools for the next instalment in their critically acclaimed Racing/Creation series.
Speaking to Strategy Informer, International Product Manager Edouard Beauchemin said that it was "possible", but that it could get "messy" if not handled properly.
"We thought about it quite a lot - do we put a limit on it? What's the ideal balance? For the moment, we're keeping the control firmly on the gameplay part - the car should drive the same for example. You can't have a car driving a car that goes at 1000 kph in one map and then 100 kph in another."
Nadeo seem to be worried that external mod tools will interfere with the internal tools that are available to all players anyway, creating problems when it comes to sharing and networking player content.
"It's something we've talked about on the forums, maybe as an experiment after launch, but we worry that if we saw allow blocks to be tweaked, things will get too messy."
TrackMania2: Canyon will see improved creation tools, and up to 237 blocks to play with. In order to help facilitate the sharing of content, players will also be able to 'pack' several different creations together and release their own content 'updates' to the community.
Canyon is due for release in September, and will soon be entering a closed beta. You can read the rest of the interview , or look at our hands-on preview .
