Star Wars: The Old Republic to "last for decades," hopes BioWare

Developer BioWare plan on expanding the Star Wars: The Old Republic galaxy map by "dozens of worlds," and maybe even "hundreds of worlds eventually."

They joke they'll "hopefully have 500 worlds" by 2025. Right now the Star Wars MMO has "19 major worlds," with an "indeterminate number" of minor ones.


EA has already said that each class in Star Wars: The Old Republic has over 200 hours gameplay each, and no class shares the same major quests.

"Well, I can say that we have 19 major worlds. Then we have an indeterminate number of minor worlds," said BioWare senior creative director James Ohlen.

"And our goal, obviously this being an online game, that we're hoping is going to last for decades, we're going to be, obviously, adding more to the galaxy map as the game progresses." BioWare is already experienced with creating their own worlds in Star Wars lore thanks to Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. Manaan ring a bell?

"We want to add dozens of worlds. Hundreds of worlds eventually. In 2025, we'll hopefully have 500 worlds." There's certainly a lot to expand on in a galaxy as rich as Star Wars, whether it's new worlds, a whole new race or character class.

BioWare and EA recently unveiled the Star Wars: The Old Republic Collector's Edition which packs a mighty punch to the wallet but is bristling with goodies. EA's own Origin pre-orders have hit their limit say reports, with consumers re-selling them at hefty sums.

Decades? I don't think so. Eventually the player-base gets tired of the same old style. Look at WoW people who started at release are dropping like flies at the newest content.

I do hope they manage to keep the game afloat for a few years.

WoW's been around for 7 years. If this can beat it, it will be around for at least 10.
