From Dust PC to have 'Always On DRM'?
Posted: 28.07.2011 04:11 by JonahFalcon Comments: 8
It seems that the Steam Listing for From Dust has the notation "3rd-party DRM: Ubisoft Online Service" on the game. This is the same note listed on Driver: San Francisco, which was recently confirmed to have the reviled "Always On" DRM that forces the user to always have an internet connection when playing.

The PC version of From Dust was recently delayed til mid-August.

If it will, then bye bye Ubi, I'll have pirate copy.

While Ubisoft can do as they like with their games - I hope this will crash and burn together with Driver.
The always online is a joke and a slap in the face for all PC players. So go shove something where the internet don't reach Ubisoft - I won't be buying or playing these games at all!

So that's why Ubi bastards delayed the game.

Even with Steam, Ubisoft trusts no one.

Dumb and dumber, Steam is all the DRM a game needs. I hate it when you need to use some 3rd party crap for games on steam, they are already on steam dammit.

This sucks ass. For example when I'm at my parents house, I have to actually unplug the internet cable whenever a big storm starts cause things can get fried otherwise.

Stupidly obtrusive DRM = no chance of me buying a game. Not just this particular DRM scheme, but any similarly stupid one.

VG 24/7 are saying Ubisoft confirmed that there would not be perma online DRM. Probably means some (slightly) less annoying drm, like online check every time you launch...

“From Dust will not require a permanent online connection to play in single-player mode.” - From an Ubisoft rep.
