Co-op will be added to Space Marine post-release

Bluesnews is reporting that a post on the Space Marine Forums has revealed that co-op support for the upcoming third person shooter Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine will be added after the game's release.


The post also details when the co-op mode will be added, and what will be involved:

1.) Space Marine will have Co-Op added in 30 days give or take after launch.
a.) Why? We wanted to polish up the Co-Op aspect of Space Marine.
2.) The GameStop Co-Op call out was old information and we have a nice slate of info to cover all your Co-Op needs.
3.) Everyone who purchases Space Marine at retail (brand new) will get Co-Op for FREE. If you buy the game one year from now the Co-Op option will still be Free as long as the game is sealed brand new from retail.

It seems that the co-op mode is less about "polishing" the game, and more about combating rentals and used game sales.

As a long time fan of the Warhammer universe (Both Fantasy and 40K) (and THQ's take on the franchise as they have done a tremendous job), I still will enjoy this even without the co-op for a while. Here's hoping that this will not only be a fine Warhammer 40K title but also a admirable shooter as well.

Too bad, I'm sure id love this in single player as well, but i'm definitely not going to play it before the coop is released. There are too few good coop games of this nature to waste it.

And yes, they do seem to be giving mixed signals about the reasons for the delay.

Well it does seem a lot of games are going towards this pay extra for second hand games but i guess they do have a fair point.

It would be nice though if they start to get money from second hand sales that new games start to retail at a lower price :D

What? Are you sure? Why in the hell would they do something like that? It makes no sense, it's usually the other way around when console versions of games don't get stuff like this.

Well I hope it will be free beyod the 30 day period as THQ have stated they will not make any confirmations until later this month (Source: Joystiq). Either way, I never play Co-op so it's not that important.
