Are EA planning a new Alpha Centauri game?

According to two registered trademarks, EA could be planning a new game for the Alpha Centauri franchise.

The cult turn-based strategy series hasn't seen a new game since Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri was released for the PC in 1999. In 2009 the EA owned trademark expired, but these newly registered trademarks by EA have sparked speculation from fans that a new title is expected to be announced soon.

The first trademark is for computer game software, the second is for online computer games. Both of these were registered on 1st August in the US, and then later a trademark was filed for Alpha Centauri in Europe on 2nd August.

Fans are speculating that this could be an iPhone game or a new Facebook version, but there's a chance that EA could be planning something PC or console related. What would you take a guess on?

We'll contact EA to see if we can find out more.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, YES!!!

Unless it's not a PC game at all, in that case go FFFFFFFFFF. yourselves EA.

Please let it be a proper Alpha Centauri game, pretty please.

I prefer Alpha Centauri to Civilization so all the excitement is somewhat warranted :).

You're assuming that a game titled "Alpha Centauri" would be a remake of Sid Meier's game. It's the name of a star and could be anything, like a sci-fi first person shooter.

.....I'm sorry I seem to have gotten a bit upset there. What I meant to say is, I rather like that game and it would be nice if you reconsidered your opinion. I'm a big fan of this game.

Well there are probably no 10+ year old games that can claim otherwise :).

What do graphics have to do with how good a game is?

I never got into "SM's Slpha Centauri". Don't know why,, but it just didn't have the appeal of "Civ II" at the time for me. I know it was ppular, and if it is a better, as in more stable game than "Civ 5".
Big missed opportunity for 2K, letting this slip under their radar.
