Fatshark is developing War of the Roses, announces Paradox Interactive. It's a multiplayer 'shooter' set in medieval 15 century England and is ripe for action.
It's a time of "conflict, treachery and bloodshed." We create our own characters as we pull ourselves up from the muck. Single-player 'prepares' for multiplayer.
Fatshark created Lead and Gold the online team-based shooter, but now the studio wants a taste of medieval steel. The game takes place during one of England's most bloody times in its history, where two major Houses fought for control of the throne.
The house of Lancaster (the reds) and the house of York (the whites) will be dusting up and we get to pick what side we'll be supporting as we raise ourselves up in nobility.
"The years of 1455-1485 in England is an extraordinary and underused setting filled with conflict, treachery and bloodshed," described the press release.
"In the wake of the “death of chivalry” at Agincourt in 1415 and the introduction of gunpowder, warfare changed; the gloves came off, so to speak. The old and the new clashed on the battlefield while personal vendettas persistently motivated the desire for war."
Fatshark uses the Bitsquid tech-engine to power War of the Roses, and all the lessons the developer learned from building the multiplayer game Lead and Gold. It's primary focus is on melee combat but they want to compete with top class shooters.
"The focus of the core gameplay is on the Multiplayer experience, but we will have an engaging and immersive story driven single player campaign designed to prepare and train players for the multiplayer experience," said Fatshark and Paradox.
"The single player campaign will give the players direct rewards to use in the multiplayer battles." As War of the Roses is still in the "early stages of development" they can't set in stone how many players can take part in multiplayer yet.
Here are the main highlight features:
Recreating Medieval Battles - recreate the feeling of the savage face to face fighting during the Wars of the Roses.
Huge Persistence System - create your own character and rise through the ranks from lowly serf to a noble knight in the finest armor. Addictive progression system with unlockables, leveling and detailed statistics.
Team Oriented Game Modes - work together in a team towards common goals
