Deus Ex: HR - ammo is rare for a reason

Ammo will be scarce in Eidos Montreal's upcoming shooter-RPG Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and it's a deliberate design choice by the developer, as part of gameplay balancing.

Eidos Montreal has a Tumblr account for gamers to pose questions for the developer to answer, and one anonymous fan asked if they had "considered increasing the amounts of ammo throughout the game?"

The reason was due to the fact that early in beta-testing, every weapon dropped by NPCs was fully loaded, and pretty soon testers found themselves drowning in ammo, and subsequently, the testers complained that Human Revolution was too easy.

When Eidos Montreal reduced the ammo drops, playtesters were forced to improvise. According to the developer, "We saw a lot more exploration and creative problem solving." After the initial complaints about the scarcity of ammo, people started enjoying themselves. "The fun factor went up. Drastically." Ultimately, "People started to ‘get’ what Deus Ex was about."

Deus Ex: Human Revolution will be released next week on August 23 on PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

This could be sooo good. The gameplay vids and story vids so far looks promising. Don't know if it is Xbox screens we see most often - but graphics appear slightly dated - but that is no turn off for a game like this.

Yea it's not as graphically strong as BF3 for example but it doesn't matter, but i do hope physics are decent. I've become much more demanding about that than pure graphics.

Their decision is obviously the right one, for all the reasons they stated. Deus Ex is Deus Ex and not just some shooter.

I don't like this feature at all, its not balanced. Today I was up against an army with seemingly non stop suppy train of ammo and soldiers. And I was stuck with 10 bullets in a gun that takes 30 to kill a guy. So I am like, f this and spent 10 minutes waiting for my heat to die down.

My next thought was, I am going to buy bullets. So I go to one of the hard to find shops and look at what they have in stock.
Everything but what my guns need.

I saw a cop who was alone and in an alley with the same gun as me. My instant thought "Jackpot" so I knock him out "I am not cruel" and take his gun... 1 bullet.. I know cops are underfunded and all, but what cop goes around with one bullet in his gun? And seeing as your the head of security of a multi-national corperation and I get my own plane/pilot and some awesome technojumble that would cost thousands. And they cannot give you bullets? I mean if I am in enemy territory I can understand, but when I am back at home with no threats and talking to my boss I cannot say. Hey... you got some money.. could you say.. order me 3 bullets? Thanks that would be grand.
