BioWare teases Dragon Age III plot, "saving the world from itself"

Some high profile BioWare-ites have teased what the RPG studio has planned for the next major instalment to Dragon Age, and Hawke could return.

They could also go with an all-new protagonist - they haven't decided. In any event the world is tearing itself apart as Templars and Mages fight for control.

Creative Director Mike Laidlaw, executive producer Mark Darrah, Art Director Matt Goldman and Writer David Gaider were all at PAX and sitting on a discussion panel. Dragon Age III would feature an all-out brawl between the Templar and the Mages.

The player character, whoever that ends up being, will be travelling Thedas to gather allies and attempt to put an end to the conflict. The studio affirmed that an MMO is not part of their plans to further expand the BioWare created IP franchise.

Apparently the team is using Dragon Age II DLC to help fine tune the combat to help them decide what direction to take in the next sequel. For customisation of your party BioWare is presently treading somewhere in between Origins and II.

Hope they don't mess it up like they did DA2. Not that I played DA2. I would, but with so many bad feedback from people, I didn't...
By nocutius (SI Elite) on Aug 30, 2011
Great, giving away the plot, how ridiculous is that :(.
Wont even read what they said. I even avoid trailers most of the time for the same reason, i want to find things out when i play the thing not beforehand, thank you very much.
By unsilviu (SI Core) on Aug 30, 2011
They're not giving away the plot lol, it's like saying you know ME3's plot because the reapers are attacking Earth. It was quite clear it would be a conflict between mags and temps.

So treading between "DAO" and "DA 2" for customisation. I guess it'd be asking too much for a completely revamped system, along with re-imagined combat, instead of utilising the DLC for "DA 2". That's what sequels are for, though.
By Xyfer117 (SI Core) on Aug 30, 2011
I also didnt bother with DA2 simply because of the bad reviews
By SirRoderick (SI Elite) on Aug 30, 2011
If you played DA II, you already knew that'd be the basic plot theme.

And I hate the fact that they're going "in-between" instead of just using the PERFECT and proven concept of the first!

Seriously, the original Dragon Age had a really good setup and system. From the controls, combat, and even graphics it was incredible. Then they went all cartoonish, fast-paced and lost the charm of the original. I still enjoyed DA2 for what it was worth, but it could have been so much more.
By SirRoderick (SI Elite) on Aug 31, 2011
I played DAII, but was constantly feeling like I was playing a reject cousin of the original. It was just so...console.
By Longsword (SI Core Member) on Aug 31, 2011
^ Couldn't have put it better myself.
By boarsarecool (SI Newbie) on Aug 31, 2011
I enjoyed the first, the second was ok, probably won't buy the third.
By Boston12 (SI Newbie) on Aug 31, 2011
@ Chosen-One

It's because they were bought by EA that their games have gone down hill
By weedwacker (SI Newbie) on Aug 31, 2011
Didn't the second jut come out?
By herodotus (SI Herodotus) on Aug 31, 2011
'Dragon Age 3 - The Suffering" - bring it on....
By SiyaenSokol (SI Elite) on Sep 01, 2011
I still need to complete Dragon Age Origins, lol!
By Actaeon (SI Newbie) on Sep 01, 2011
i agree with earlyer comments about how da2 strayed from the awesome ness of the original... to tell u the truth i dint really like staying in kirkwall i did not feel the same immersion as i did the first - on another note / i agree that bio seems to be going down hill but id like to have a little hope for them to continue producing awesome games.. fingers crossed >.

Wow - Dragon Effect it is again - BioWare clearly shows they can't come up with anything new for the meta plot. Stay in the secure comfort zone of classic fantasy.

Dragon Age and mass Effect differed though and while Mass Effect felt more action paced and went fairly well witht eh streamlining of ME2 - Dragon Age felt like more orf a title of control and cool abilities and spells etcto make good combos and tactical play. use the thief to riddle the ground with traps and lure enemies etc. More "Epic" play that way.
Now they are getting more and more the same but ME3 still feels a bit fresh (though seriously over-hyped) Dragon Age feels like dead in the water.

Why do we always have to save the damn "world"!? Why can't we sometimes save money instead and avoid buying games like this?
By nocutius (SI Elite) on Sep 01, 2011
Nice one, save the money not the world :).

Full price for DA2 was a waste of money, but it's still a cool enough game it you got it at a heavy discount.

By SirRoderick (SI Elite) on Sep 03, 2011
It really is very difficult to make sense of.

No offence Collin!
By FoolWolf (SI Elite) on Sep 05, 2011
You are not alone Chosen_One:)
Colin has a certain "flavor" to his posts. :)
By SirRoderick (SI Elite) on Sep 05, 2011
Yes...flavour. That's a good euphemistic term to avoid calling it an unreadable mess cooked up by a crackhead, let's use that!

By unsilviu (SI Core) on Sep 06, 2011
Watch it, he might start insulting you too :P
By SirRoderick (SI Elite) on Sep 06, 2011
Bah, all in good fun, surely :)

By SirRoderick (SI Elite) on Sep 07, 2011
I'm pretty sure he's trying to insult us, but I can't tell for sure.
By unsilviu (SI Core) on Sep 07, 2011
Colin. Could you please try to write normally? That's the only problem. I'm sure we'd have a good time discussing the finer points of gaming with no need for insults if you would just use proper English. If you don't know English well enough, you can use online translators to an acceptable effect. The half-intelligible language and the macros, such as [PcDots/VacЯ] make you sound like a spambot, which subconsciously creates tension and an inability to relate to you. You can write what you want to say in latvian here: and it will make us all understand ;)

Colin.
