Perfect World CEO Kelvin Lau reveals MMO Star Trek Online is going to be free-to-play by the end of 2011, according to a response given in an earnings call.
He said Perfect World could "share" their F2P experience with Cryptic now they've acquired them, and they were in fact already working on a free-to-play model.
"...also Star Trek Online, after the acquisition, in fact Cryptic is working on the free-to-play model for Star Trek Online," said CEO Kelvin Lau.
"This is going to be launched by the end of this year as well. So I think free-to-play model we have a bigger potential in US market and also in China market." Perfect World are using Cryptic Studios to expand operations in Europe and North America.
Will you give Star Trek Online a shot when it's free-to-play, videogamer? Cryptic's other MMO, Champions Online, has already adopted a free-to-play model.
