Brian Farrell, THQ’s chief executive told investors that their up and coming title, Saints Row 2 will be “very differentiated” to Rockstar rival GTA IV.
Featuring more "tongue-in-cheek" and "silly, over-the-top gameplay", Violation’s sequel hopes to stand apart from Bellic’s grim underworld-tale by including more customisation, a more integrated co-op mode and a “unique” combat system.
Farrell commented that THQ were “always concerned” about GTA IV being a competitor, but soothed fears by revealing that Saints Row 2 would be going down a different route;
“…It's a great game, but they went in this great creative direction (that makes the game) more character- and story-driven.
"...They had gone this way on the branch, we've gone the other."
Saints Row 2 is due out on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 14th: Two months later then expected. According to Farrell, this was because Volition asked for more time to polish the game.
