Some more interesting revelations have been made at Activision's Call of Duty XP convention, this one during a panel of Treyarch employees who were offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at the role and creation of maps in Call of Duty: Black Ops.

The panel revealed that around 50% of all maps that moved into Black Ops' development phase never saw official release, despite four map packs being released for the game so far during its lifespan.

One of the maps that was shown off to the gathered audience was "War Museum", which was a recreation of the "Castle" map from World at War. It was canned because Treyarch didn't want to reuse content from previous games.

"War Museum."

Treyarch senior game designer Phillip Tasker stated that some of the maps they developed for Black Ops took almost a year, saying, "Call of Duty level designers are three-part designers: one part artist, one part architect, and completely insane."

The work has paid off, since it was released the panel also revealed over 18 million maps for Call of Duty: Black Ops have been purchased by gamers.

The last of the DLC hasn't made it to PC, not that I'd want it anyway - Zombie maps only...bleh!
So do we have a reason why more maps weren't initially included or as an optional DLC?

And players are lazy?

*Granpa style* when I was young - gamers made their own maps and shared with each other! *Grandpa style off*

And still, so many maps, and so few good ones...

Also true FoolWolf. In our younger days, maps were created by fellow gamers, and then we would share it with one another. I miss those days of great gaming.

They didn't want to re-use old content?! From what I recall the new Zombie map-pack has 4 Zombies maps from World At War and one original map. Hmmmm....

So why dont they release 10 packs but each being half the price :D that way i can buy half the packs and tell myself i have saved money :D

Does ask the question why more maps arent included when you buy the game and why they dont throw a few map in there every now and then

They might include the maps, albeit revised in the new "CoD" game by Treyarch next November.
Wolfy and Vet, we still make and share maps with Flight Sims and Strategy games so the Grandpa days live on:)

Haha, YAY!!! Most of us came through long years of gaming, where everything all began... or at least got going: 1994, the year when games like DOOM, Warcraft, Heretic, Hexen, and Duke Nukem started.

My first "PC" game was "Lunar Lander" in 1979, where our school computer was linked to the University's IT Department. First PC game: "Titanic" - text-based adventure (circa 1989).
