Digital DiRT 3 copies pinched

In a possible exercise of total futility, around 3 million digital codes for DiRT 3 were stolen and from an AMD server which were reserved as part of a promotion.

The codes were given away which let people enjoy DiRT 3 through Steam, although given the nature of how this all works the codes are likely easy to trace.

Ultimately this 'free ride' of Codemasters' DiRT 3 could lead to quite a few Steam bans as Valve and AMD hunt down those connected to the theft. It could get complicated however if people start claiming they were duped into buying a 'legitimate' digital copy.

At the least Steam should be able to easily disable the copies.

The promotion in question is simply every AMD video card bought these days. If they don't fix it, they're going to have lots of pissed off customers. Good thing I bought mine last month.

Bans? They better not be this stupid. I don't see Valve doing this, disabling the game and explaining why, yes. Banning, no.

Ah Nocutius, Steam are notorious for banning gamer's accounts, sometimes quite accidently. Gamers then have to jumps through a half dozen hoops to get their accounts back. Bans will be enforced, believe it.

Wow that sucks! I could've saved some Money if I had ripped it from Steam instead of Buying the game! Dang!
On a more serious note, Dirt 3 is a great game and I hope they catch whoever stole those codes. The last thing I want to hear is that there will never be another Dirt game because of this.

Herodotus, apparently not notorious enough :).

I've heard a few scary stories but out of 20 million active accounts those few cases are a small drop in the sea. At least they were nothing i managed to get angry/worried enough to remember the details. I might just be blissfully ignorant though :).
