Wrong version of Dead Island released on Steam

A day one patch for the PC version of Dead Island was released, and it seems that the reason is almost comical - Deep Island released the wrong version of the game on Steam. Some players reported they could activate no clip with a press of a button - the reason is that the debug version was released.

According to Escapist Magazine, "A curious player started poking around the game's code, and discovered that the Steam version of the game is actually a developer build. There seems to be some dispute over whether this is a development build of the Xbox 360 version released by accident, or a master development build which all the other versions sprung from. Nevertheless, the consensus seems to be that someone has released the wrong version to the public, and that is what is causing all the problems."

This would imply the retail release of Dead Island for the PC works fine.

Let us know if you've encountered the strange bugs in the Steam edition of Dead Island.

I actually love the game and I got to play the developer build (or whatever it was), which I found hilarious. Also, honestly a lot of people including myself have come to wonder if they meant to do that as a marketing ploy. A lot of people knew nothing about the game and I had only see a few commercials or anything for it. Now its all over the internet.
